After enjoying amazing soft serve ice cream treats last summer, my husband and I returned en route to Calgary July 28 only to find the soft serve was not available. We returned Aug. 6 on our way home, to find soft serve was still not working. No worries, as we wanted to have dinner. Line-up out the door, which I figured meant the food was great. After waiting close to an hour for our food, we received food that was truly dreadful. The fried chicken was so over-cooked it was almost inedible, but at this point we'd been on the road for nine hours and I was hungry. This restaurant doesn't cook their burgers on the grill, but instead flattens them to keep more of the natural fats and juices in the patty, resulting in a superior burger. The toppings are fresh and plentiful. While my son makes the best burgers I've had, these come in a close second. The combo meal (burger, fries, pop) is a bit pricey at $21, but I prioritize quality of food over cost when dining out. The service was adequate when we arrived, but the lone staff member had trouble keeping up when a rush of customers came in. I was staying just next door at the Days Inn and walked over here to grab something to eat after the people in the room next door recommended it. I had to wait quite a while before I could place an order and then once I had ordered I waited even longer. There was just one girl seemingly taking the orders and serving ice cream while I saw others just puttering around not doing anything or talking. My food was then up in the window and ignored for quite a while before I was served it. While the food was good it wasn't worth the wait and frustration.
My first visit for lunch at this restaurant was a very pleasant experience. The hand-cut fries were absolutely delicious. Both the regular burger and the chicken burger were flavorful, with the chicken being particularly moist. I definitely want to come back to try one of their shakes since the variety of flavors looks fantastic! The local artwork on display was a nice touch, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The beef patty in the burger was incredibly tender and juicy. The restaurant has a clean environment and is conveniently located just off the highway. Despite being close to the highway, the atmosphere is relaxed and not overly crowded. It's a great spot for a break, especially if you have a pet with you and want to sit outdoors. There is plenty of parking available.
We stopped for lunch and wanted a local restaurant. We had the nomad burger with fries and a milkshake. It was busy but we didn't wait long and the food was delicious. You order at the counter and they will bring you your food. Nice patio seating for the summer, there is also indoor seating. Short 2 minutes detour of the highway. Well worth it.
