The Old Bell Coffee House

A lovely little find (and indeed it is a find you have to wander down Bashful Alley, which is well named because it likes to keep itself secret: look next to the Animalcare Shop in Market Street). The premises are quaint from the outside but comparatively modern on the inside. The menu is relatively well priced and extensive, not adventurous, but good basic food. The atmosphere was welcoming and smiley (very quiet on the day I was there) and the interior quite dimly lit, adding to the atmosphere. I ordered an all day breakfast and cafetiere of coffee and they were served in no time and very tasty! I will definitely search out this place next time I make a trip to Lancaster.

Fantastic food and great service, we stopped for lunch at the Old Bell whilst visiting Lancaster on our holiday. There was a really good choice of food, our food was hot and very tasty and good value, we will definitely eat here again when we are in the city.

I can't recommend this family run cafe enough. The food is always very well presented, hot delicious and the cakes are definitely worth ruining your diet for. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Definitely the nicest cafe in Lancaster.

Most enjoyable breakfast smoked salmon scrambled eggs with the added bonus of loose leaf tea . Difficult to rate the atmosphere when it’s so quiet.

Great food and service. If you're in Lancaster, I would definitely recommend the Old Bell for breakfast or lunch.
