While I was excited to try The Old Goat for the first time, and really enjoyed the ambiance, the food was bland and WAY overpriced. I asked for some Parmesan cheese to sprinkle on my pizza and was given a small container of ‘shredded’ Parmesan that I was charged for. My companion got the Vegetable board, which was very small in quantity for what it cost. We were both there for the first time, excited to try it, and both left there disappointed and saying we would not recommend it, nor would we choose it again. Makes me sad, because while there are many restaurants in GR, you can’t always find fun, different ambiance like that. Disappointed.
We visited the restaurant for Mother's Day and experienced a short wait, with a friendly host welcoming us. Initially, we sat outside but decided to move indoors due to the chilly weather. I ordered the brisket and a Reuben sandwich. Unfortunately, both dishes were just okay; they lacked sufficient meat and were quite chewy. They did look appealing with the large pretzel bun, but the taste didn’t live up to the presentation. The lobster bisque, however, was quite enjoyable. The service was average; our server appeared to be under a lot of stress. It's been a while since our last visit, and I don't think we'll be returning anytime soon.
I've heard one of this restaurant and it's a bit a walk from where we live so I wanted to make a reservation. I've done this through. it really didn't help. we showed up and explained we had a reservation, and it was clear that we were put on a list as if we had just gone in. I was a little frustrated, said it would be 25-40min before they could put us. then the service and the meal were great. we have shared.a cheese whiz app. we ordered hummerbisque. daughter had chicken, woman had turkey sandwich, and I had garnel and grits. all fantastic. we will return for another round.
eating was mostly great. two on our table had bearded bark hash and the kartoffels were a bit under done (circle) on one of the escapes. blueberry friture on the breadboard were fantastic. burgers were fantastic. a pleasant meal. server was very pleasant, but a little less than attentive, we had to make it for the service at two places down.

Everything was great accept we made a reservation and something happened to their computer and all reservations got wiped out so we had to wait. I would have thought a manger might have made an apology but it just felt like tough luck! Offering a free dessert or something would have been an appropriate gesture....
Our first time at this fine eatery ... were seated upstairs Gavin (our server) was very attentive without being intrusive, offering excellent guidance on the choices food options. The food distracted me from taking pictures ... it was THAT good!
We absolutely LOVE The Old Goat! Our server, Gavin, was fantastic—he was fun, friendly, and incredibly attentive. He provided excellent recommendations. This restaurant is a must-visit in Alger!
Reuben was great. I ordered the trout. It wasn’t even a whole filet. It was two small pieces for $23. Disappointed. Bourbon and ginger drink was also a disappointment. Band was amazing!

Our server Emily was wonderful! All four of our entrees were wonderful, inventive and tasty! Can’t wait to bring more friends here!
