A delicious dinner in South Pasadena in a historically important, beautiful Californian handicraft style former home. As the name says, the story comes from 1886, which is honestly really cool. It really feels secret and like a well-designed craftsman in style and function. There is a ton of seats inside and outside and there are also plenty of parking on the side streets. They also offer Valet, but we could find a space nearby. Our server Patrick was also really polite. I started with the steak tartare and it was delicious. A little expensive but definitely worth it. The food is amazing. We got brunch and had pancakes that were crispy, soft and very tasteful. We also had eggs Benedict, which were really good, all the ingredients simply mix and melt in your mouth, the flavors of the poached eggs, Guaja, Hollandaise sauce, and Canadian bacon, and the English muffin all just matched and only taste so good. They turned a wonderful house into a restaurant. You can say as soon as you go in. The outdoor terrace is wonderful when the weather is allowed and they have a huge fireplace in one of the terraces. What can I say other than simply spectacular! This is absolutely one of my favorite spots to have nice intimate dinner whether it be with company or solo. Menu is always changing and the choices are always to die for. Grab a drink and dig in but please save some space for dessert cause that's where the magic truly is. I never have a problem getting a reservation and parking is always easy and close to the restaurant. A 10/10 for The Raymond and it's entire staff.
We had a nice time at The Raymond restaurant for a birthday dinner. The service to our table was a bit slow and the waiting staff could not tell us what a few menu items were, but the food and ambience was great. The salad was refreshing, but the vinaiigrette could have a little more bang to put the fruit in the salad. The seabass and short rib were cooked for perfection and they even brought two desserts for our birthday party.
We've driven past so many times and never got around to dining here until tonight. It's a cozy place with old school charm. We had the filet and short ribs for dinner with a side of rapini. The filet was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. The short ribs were also excellent and had just enough seasoning without masking the flavor of the meat. Glad we tried it. It's close enough to walk, and we'll be back.
Absolutely loved the historic homeliness of The Raymond, rustic, casual, tranquil fountains and green garden setting. This contrasted with the somewhat disjointed service, our cocktail took ages to arrive, needed follow up but was delicious when it arrived. We'd asked for mayo but by the time it arrived the fries had gone cold. It would also have been great to see more vegetarian options.
Been coming to this place for close to 10 years now and never grow tired of it. Tje cocktails and food are great and the ambience inside this craftsman cottage always transports me to another era. Classic Pasadena! The Fermi Paradox cocktail is a 10 and the short rib tacos on the brunch menu are excellent. But my favorite is the cinnamon roll!
