Was just a spur of the moment stay, looking for a dog friendly pub and what a find. The owners and staff couldn't of done anymore for us. Millie loved the attention and the sausages the following morning. The room was spotlessly clean, as with some dog friendly places they smell of dogs, not the royal oak. Also the little touches like a tassimo with lots of choices, still and sparkling water and cream for your coffee. We've definitely found our bolthole for a quick get away. the royal oak is probably what I am as the “local” pub in helmsley, the others are hotel bars and a brewery tap that are all very good. the oak is quite as I had expected; sport on the telly and music on the loudspeakers. above all were neither intrusiw, and the general background noise was from different groups of people for a quiet pint, which should be a good pub everything. the service was very good; our beer (wainwrights) were top-class; and the atmosphere was perfect. first class pub
Yesterday we called to the midday square and were greeted by the owners who were very friendly. tell us a little story about the beautiful old bar while we waited for our food. home cooked eating was beautiful and very generously portioned I had scampi hubby had steak pie. there were about 15 pieces of scampi and the torte was filled with steak. will be there again next time. oh and dogs are also welcome and even get a tasty x
This is a very friendly hotel and pub. We stayed for 3 nights in a comfortable room with our dog Sidney and he was made to feel welcome too. He even had sausages for breakfast! Our breakfast was also most satisfying and set us up nicely for the day. Our hosts genuinely cared about our stay and loved our doggy. Yes we will be back here :

My friend Rob and his family have just taken over this lovely place. Cannot recommend it enough your guaranteed a warm and friendly atmosphere and a home away from home whether it 's just good pub food or a place to stay that your after. Lovely family and definitely worth joining them for a drink (or maybe 2 they are from 'boro '!
After the last time we went and weren't that impressed, we decided to give it another try as we have been going on and off for four years when caravaning in Pickering. We were very pleased the food was delicious and not only we were treat well but even Sandy our beloved dog got lots of hugs. Very impressed will be going again soon
I knew there was a dog-friendly pub, but I didn't expect my dog to be made as welcome as she was and treated as if she was as important as us! She was fed dog biscuits and was given with much love a bowl of water! highly recommended
here in the off-candidate for a drink and a bite to eat as it was a dog friendly environment, staff helpful and friendly chef / wascher very helpful and friendly, eating and atmosphere was good to visit again in any case.
