We have been visiting the Royal Oak, Winsford for a number of years, usually when camping nearby. Having booked a cottage for a long weekend in Dulverton, we phoned and made a booking for adult family members for Sunday and were pleased to find a table available.When we arrived, the door was indeed locked but soon opened by Mark who greeted us and showed us to our table. Covid procedures were still in place which we welcomed and felt comfortable with. There was one other table in use and we learned of the landlord and lady's closed to walk in policy. From the moment I spoke with owner Jane on the phone, my experience at the pub was fantastic. Jane and her husband Steve went out of their way to make us and all the other guests feel welcome. We were staying for a vintage sports car club trial, and Jane helped us park our trailers and even chatted with us in the bar. They provided us with an early breakfast and filled our coffee flasks, allowing us to make an early departure. When we returned in the evening, we received an equally warm welcome. My husband and I made a last minute dinner reservation at this restaurant while we were staying nearby. It turned out to be a wonderful evening. We were greeted warmly and received excellent service throughout our meal. We sat in the pub area and enjoyed the company of some friendly locals. The menu offered a variety of impressive dishes, and we both ordered the Guinea fowl and venison haunch, which were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Although we were too full for dessert, I'm sure it would have been worth the calories. If you find yourself in the Exmoor area, be sure to dine at this restaurant!
First time visit when we booked for an evening meal, and very impressed by the village, the building and the welcome received from staff. Waiter immediately asked which of us had the dairy allergy (which had been mentioned when I booked one month earlier) and that put my Wife's mind at rest for the remainder of the evening. Attentive and knowledgeable staff, and great food the double lamb chop was huge and so tender! A very enjoyable meal and excellent service throughout. Thank you
