An unassuming but charming little pub next to a canal and if the weather is kind there is plenty of outdoor seating to watch the swans, ducks and occasional barge on the water and there's a children's play area too. Both our food and drinks orders were taken quickly and each arrived without much of a wait. My steak and ale pie was delicious with the accompanying creamy mashed potato and green beans and peas and a jug of gravy. Yum! Others in my party chose roast beef and Yorkshire Pudding and one chose the small plates option which includes halloumi fries and tasty bites. I live 17 minutes away in Ainsdale, and now aged 66 with far to many regular pub visits since aged 16, I have never been to the Running Horses till today. I have driven past it on occasions but never ventured in. I think it has had its ups and downs in the past but the reviews looked good recently so we decided to visit for one of my families bi-monthly Sunday Lunches. We were not disappointed, it was fairly quiet at 2pm on a Sunday, but gradually got a lot busier and when we left at 415pm, there were lots of people sitting outside in the sunshine. Roasts were back on the menu and 4 of us had the beef. It was great, a decent sized portion at a good price and what looked like home made roast...
Well what can I say apart from amazing there was 5 of us in total all with our own needs especially the crutches everywhere is accessible we all walked in individually and were sat at our table we received a warm welcome by all the staff the drinks arrived then the food and what can I say absolutely delicious I had noodles and added chicken to my noodles it was delicious and the smell was amazing more drinks arrived the service is super quick and the women and men who work here are all so friendly Lindsey and her gang are so nice and friendly and the food and drinks were flowing we all had an amazing time booked in again can’t wait to be back every place should Have a Lindsey working there
We booked here as a family of 7. It was very busy as it was a sunny Sunday. We ordered our meals. Had a little wait for them as it was very busy. Lyndsey was very apologetic. All meals arrived lovely and clean plates at the end. My 2 granddaughters especially love the zip wire! Always a warm welcome in this establishment. All staff are lovely but a special mention for Lyndsay who is so friendly and has time for everyone even when it’s extremely busy!

Went as were on a bike ride down the beautiful canal. The food was surprisingly lovely. We sat outside in the Marquee which I a lovely wooden one. Service was great. Definitely recommend. Staff are lovely especially Jessica all of them quick to serve you. We will be returning for sure
Just found this place by chance after going for a walk. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. We always return to here for their amazing desperado burger , it 's the best I 've ever had and can 't be beaten.
actually visited this pub/restaurant twice within a few weeks firstly to try it out and we were so impressed decided to book again for a 60th birthday meal good selection of items great service we will return
very impressive menu prices are about right .they also have some good offers throughout the week. very plesent surroundings and great service what more could you ask for !!
