The Shipwright’s Arms is located, appropriately, opposite the boatbuilders at Hollowshore, right by the creek. At the end of a long private road, it’s hardly a pub you’d stumble across, unless you were walking the Saxon Shore Way, which passes right by. Despite having lived in or near Kent since the 1970’s, I’d never visited the pub until this week. So good was it, that I made a second visit within two days, and expect to return frequently from now on. The beer was extremely good, with a variety of local beers- Goachers, from Maidstone, Kent Brewery in Birling, Harvey’s from Lewes in Sussex. All from casks behind the bar, so gravity provided the propulsion rather than gas. The beers were wel...

Located at the end of a bumpy road, the Shipwright Arms boasts a charming appearance with a lovely garden overlooking fields, reed-beds, and the seawall. Situated near Oare Nature Reserve and Faversham Creek, it is a popular spot for birdwatchers, sailors, and hikers. Arriving just before noon, we explored the back area while eagerly anticipating our visit. The restaurant prides itself on serving traditional pub food without any frills. Upon entering through the back door, we were greeted by the staff who informed us that certain drinks were unavailable. Despite the limited menu, we decided on a burger and scampi chips. The burger was served with raw onion and cucumber, which was not what we...
This is very off the beaten track. Family run for many many years and weathered like a traditional antique. Very British. Low ceilings, plenty of genuine character. No modern junk. Excellent selection of really good beers, plus a few big names if you must. Straightforward unembellished selection of traditional pub grub. We all had their excellent and famous made in the pub scotch eggs. Large, juicy with a lovely crust, nicely seasoned with a mild herbs to enrich the flavour. Good chips too. Perfect after a walk there from Faversham. Many thanks to all there, especially the daughter who makes the scotch eggs.
As a frequent patron of this pub, I may be a bit biased, but I have nothing but good things to say about this traditional and unspoiled establishment. The ale selection is always impressive, and while the food menu is limited, I highly recommend trying the homemade chilli wedge melt - it's amazing! Some people may not give this pub the best reviews, perhaps because they are comparing it to gastro pubs. However, in my opinion, if you want to experience a truly authentic old English pub, then the Shipwrights is the place to go. Located in the Faversham area, it's also a lovely walk from town. Great pub food, very warm welcome and helpful staff. Took our three boys and two dogs, couldn’t of had a nicer traditional pub lunch. Value for money very good too. Landlord spent time with our boys showing them a cannon ball and explained how this was used in the transportation of gunpowder. They loved it. Would highly recommend this pub. 45 minute walk from Faversham town centre or short drive and park adjacent to pub.
Quite difficult to find with a poor long road down to it--but if you're walking there it must be a good walk! Not very friendly staff and the food is bar food with no pretensions. However the staff who brought the food out were very helpful even if they did bring one too many meals(refunded)We had 4 small children so it was a perfect pub for them especially as the garden is very large.
We managed a visit after a two month absence and were greeted with a full pub adding to the usual traditional atmosphere of the place. As advertised pub grub but a fair proportion home prepared and very tasty Our youngest traveller (3 1/2 years old) was greeted as an old friend by the landlord, our little grandson has been wanting to revisit for a while. Give it a go !
A lovely two and half walk approx. from Faversham along the Saxon Way. Can be approached via road from Davington. Nice garden with wooden picnic tables, ideal for customers with dogs(on lead) and children. Traditional bar, low beams etc. Lovely sandwiches available, scotch eggs looked huge, hot food. Good choice of ales Réservez une table maintenant
Idyllic setting, out on a headland in the marshes. Best appreciated if you walk there from Faversham. Good beers, smallish menu, mostly poshed up bar snacks; but for all that a welcoming and charming place. Staff eps gilrs chatty and made us welcome, water for the dogs etc. Ate in garden
