I went to The Shota with a friend of mine for my birthday dinner and I wasn't disappointed. We both picked the omakase experience and added some supplements and a la carte items throughout the experience. Their service was exceptional. Let's talk about the service first it was exceptional. Any small detail you could think of, they provided service for that taking care of your coat, getting you seated, putting the napkin on your lap, pourig drinks, cleaning the plates after every sample... you name it. The staff was very friendly. The place was packed when we went. There was only bar dining experience from what I could tell, but still, each group was seated far apart that it felt like a private...

Food was great, fresh, and creative. The chef was so attentive and patiently described each dish to the customer. However there is a female staff (dont know her name but she was the only female staff tonight) and she had a serious attitude problem and needs to be trained. I asked for tea and cold water and she came back with only tea (which is fine I can ask for water again). I tasted the tea and it tastes like hot water so I asked her is this really tea to which she insisted it is. I tell her it taste like plain hot water and she keeps insisting its tea. I asked her to get me another tea because i am a tea drinker and i am 100% sure it is NOT tea. She asks if I want hot water instead and Im...
Absolutely stunning presentation and ambiance. Definitely high end feel for in the omakase world. Pleasantly surprised how well things were executed. Went for an early birthday dinner and they blew my kind with service and taste! I definitely left FULL and fulfilled! Every bite progressively got better. Menu changes seasonally so you know I'll be back again! They are even gave me complimentary caviar for my birthday . The meal was even educational. They gave us a break down of tuna and explained the different parts we would be enjoying. Overall amazing experience, would recommend for any event! Hell I would even recommend it for a Friday night dinner!
Had my birthday dinner here and everything was perfect!! Not only was the food very fresh and delicious, it was absolutely an art, service was awesome, could tell that our chef and waitress were very passionate about their job. The overall vibe of this place I’d say it’s both traditional and modern Japanese, they even played classic Nintendo music animal crossing new horizon and super Mario’s ! loved it sooooooo much a big for me! Look no further. This is the best omakase in SF, hands down @others: I'm sorry I love you all too, but The Shota is simply too good). The quality of fish, ambiance, creativity, service, and beauty are all unrivaled. Come hungry, seriously. You're gonna want to order the add-ons from the a la carte menu at the end.
Amazing experience! The whole staff is incredible and the chefs are very knowledgeable. The food was so delicious and the fish very fresh. Definitely recommend this place and can't wait to go back. Chef Seth made the whole experience memorable.Parking: Street parking was free and available after 8pm.
My girlfriend and I were visiting SF and decided we wanted to go to a Mich star restaurant and we decided on the shota. It truly lived up to the expectations we did the drink pairing as well and it was awesome. Such a great experience and the fish was amazing. I would go back in a heartbeat.
Food was great, service was amazing. However, the nigiri and sashimi weren’t anything special. Nothing knocked your socks off if you’ve been to a few good omakases. All in all a good meal but way overpriced for what it was. Réservez une table maintenant
Good, not excellent. Fish quality was great but very expensive for the amount of food served. We were still hungry for a dinner that cost a couple almost $2k.
Had a lovely time here, would come again! Uni was especially good. Nigiri was great, the mini crab fell a little flat.
