Owned by the Black Sheep Brewery, this establishment is conveniently located near the River Ouse and along the main route between the railway station and the city center. It features a spacious main area with a small bar section. The highlight here is the selection of about six guest ales, in addition to the beloved Black Sheep options. The place also enjoys a strong reputation for its lunchtime menu, though I haven’t dined here myself. It often gets quite crowded, especially on Saturday evenings, when the presence of bouncers at the entrance might be off-putting. However, the atmosphere inside is welcoming, and the staff is very attentive. One significant issue that requires attention is th...

A fairly small pub near the riverside in York, which is jam packed with people most nights of the week, and quite rightly so. It's a lovely Black Sheep brewery pub that revels in serving lots of different varieties of beer, both local and imported, many of which you won't find anywhere else either on tap or in bottles. The decor is good fun, as they've lined the place with all sorts of weird old signs and notices from years gone by, many of which are very surreal. The service is always with a smile and the prices are OK. I've not tried the food here but it would have to be very quiet for me to want to give it a go- it doesn't take many people to come to this place before you'd be struggling...
The portions are generous—I was served a mountain of fish and chips (and don’t even think about ordering a half portion unless you want to be thrown into the river!). Oh, and they don’t serve kids’ meals here—apparently, there’s not enough meat on the bones! Go in with a good attitude, prepare to sit a bit uncomfortably to make room for others, and bring your best banter; they can handle any wit while serving pints, buttery batter-fried fish, delicious meat pies, and chips piled high, or that spicy chili that could strip the paint off your car! This is a true pub with real character and a fierce dragon working hard in the kitchen!
The Maltings is located a couple of minutes walk from York railway station and close to Lendl Bridge. It is a privately owned Freehouse. The Maltings doesn't look much from the outside, with it's rather dowdy battleship grey exterior, but inside is a real gem full of character and atmosphere! With its cosy traditional feel, this pub offers a large range of beers to enjoy in comfortable relaxed surroundings. There is also a recently added outside area added on the side. The Maltings is a popular award winning pub, and can sometimes become rather busy. Well worth a visit! Réservez une table maintenant
The Maltings is the place to go in York if you really love your beer! The place is fantastic and caters for even the most discerning beer taster! The food always looks and smells excellent and although I have never personally tested this I am led to believe by friends that it is the case! It can often get very crowded in here as it is so popular!
This place is a nice pub, with a good range of drinks including great beers on draught, interesting bottled beers, and a wide variety of fruit wines. Despite this I just found it a bit uninspiring. Maybe because it's brewery-owned? I don't know. We didn't stay for long and other pubs we made it to were a lot nicer.
There are no TV screens, loud music, or crowds fixated on their phones here. Just great company, engaging conversation, and a pint or two. We had a wonderful time stopping by after a day in York, having a few drinks, and soaking up the lovely atmosphere.
Disgusting service. Rude bar staff. Waited ages at the bar and was ignored. I can think of much better bars in York. Very overrated. Would never go back. Réservez une table maintenant
Loads of atmosphere, but not a trace of St. P even though it's his night tonight, friendly bar staff, all round a great bar
Good beer here. One of my favourite York pubs. Not far from the station too.
