TOCA The RitzCarlton Toronto

I've been taking my elderly parents out on Thanksgiving for a 'traditional' dinner mean (non-buffet) for the past years or so. We've been to a variety of one-off restaurants and several in-hotel restos as well. I can say safely without a doubt that this has been the absolute best 'experience' (as they called it) I've ever had. Not only was the main course spectacular, as far as turkeys go, but every course from the appetizer, salad, sides and even the in-house desert was just fabulous. I'd never been to Toca prior to this evening, but I'm definitely looking to going back. We even took the plentiful leftovers home and enjoyed it the next day for lunch, just raving about how nice a dinner we had and that we'd wish all Thanksgivings were like this.

As per all reviews, service was outstanding. The environment is warm and not too noisy. We had the tenderloin salad and although the steak was prepared wonderfully, the salad portion lacked any sort of detail. The arugula appeared to come straight from a box of salad, was not dressed in any way other than a light drizzle of balsamic. I had some very strange pieces that I would not have put on the plate myself, especially not at a fine dining restaurant.

The TOCA has done an excellent job recovering from the lockdowns. The restaurant had tables well-spaced for physical distancing, and yet maintained its warm and cozy ambience. We received excellent service from Edo, who is also well versed in wine. We were at the TOCA to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday. Edo did an impressive job making him feel special. The restaurant was packed! An excellent sign of that the TOCA is a happening place.
