I booked a room here for my anniversary after seeing the pool pictures and the lake. I traveled hours to get to the hotel, and upon arrival, discovered the pool was closed for maintenance. I expressed my displeasure, as that was the main selling point, and the front desk staff told me I was able to cancel and get a refund if I was dissatisfied. I looked at the room, it was gross. There were beer cans and trash outside. I decided to leave and told the front desk, they said I would get an email about my cancellation. That was a lie. They never refunded me. They just stole $225 and lied to my face. Between the shady staff, uncleaned rooms and grounds, expensive rates and broken pools, I would not recommend Fourwinds under any circumstance.Noteworthy details: The pool was closed and we were not informed until after check-in.
HORRIBLE PLACE. I was at this marina over 10 years ago. At that time the boaters had a lot of services on the dock including a store, showers and bathroom, gasoline and pump out. The slip rental was $2400. a year.NOW. The dock rent is $6000 and that includes nothing. The store gas and pump out are all gone. The bathroom is up the hill and is usually disgustingly dirty. I went in there once and the porcelain toilet was smashed. The staff is rude. One occasion I had to get sleep for work the next day. There was a loud party way after the quiet time. I called the security and they wanted me to find the source. I told them if they did their patrols they would hear the party. The contract is unreasonable and in fact they become your power of attorney when you sign it.
We have been here for several years watching it slowly decline! 3 years ago the restaurant was short staffed and we couldn't eat at the resort. The next year the pool wasn't working. Today, we arrived after a 2 hour drive in high temperatures, looked at our room, basically it wasn't on the first floor near the beach as requested. The pool was just fixed again and the tile area was filthy. And on top of that mess, it's Tuesday, by the way. The restaurant wasn't going to be open until Thursday. It's 2 pm, I'm starving and the only other restaurant that you have to drive to doesn't open until 4PM. We were disgusted and drove home, because we were told yesterday at 3pm, that everything was up and running properly. Never again!
I’m sure FourWinds Resort was quite the resort in its day…not so much now. It is in need of a major makeover, not to mention a DEEP cleaning. The housekeeping staff needs to be fired. See photos. We went to front desk after entering room and asked for a can of bug spray for all the bugs in our bathroom. They wouldn’t give us one because of the chemicals. We were told they’d be down to spray but no one showed. We bought a can of bug spray and did it ourselves. I just hope we aren’t taking any of these bugs home!! This place is sad and should be so much better for an over $200/night room.
