We walked in at 7:35. We were told by the bartender the grill closed at 8pm (hours said 10pm) we said ok. Another girl walked up to seat us and said the grill closes at 8pm so please hurry and order . She then asked a a guy server who just finished helping with the 1980s class reunion do you want a table of 2? He threw a fit and said no . So we were seated and waited for about 10 mins. Called a week in advance for a reservation for large group. They say first come, first serve. OK. Show up for dinner and a younger waitress says next time make a reservation. LOL wut? The inside hasn 't been updated since the early 1990s. No effort in fixing anything. It would be cute if it were like a small town diner with relatively agreeable prices. But here? The waitress noticed me pulling out the container and quickly brought me napkins to clean up the mess. Meanwhile, the woman who had cleared the dishes went to sit at the bar. When I got up to leave, I approached her to explain that it was not just a lemon and to show her the spill in my jacket. I was informed that she was the owner, and she became confrontational, insisting it was merely a lemon. I was shocked by her behavior and her refusal to acknowledge my distress. My family has adopted this restaurant as our favorite spot for family dinners. The food is always fantastic, and they serve the best fries—better than McDonald's! We've tried nearly everything on the menu and have never had any complaints. Anthony has been our waiter several times, and he really goes above and beyond to take care of his customers. I have stopped in here almost every visit to Alpena. Lunch or dinner there are many great things on the menu. Love the fries, large order enough for 4 at least. Burgers are made to order and fixed how you like them. They have in a few beers on tap; normal domestic and of course some Michigan Bell's Two-hearted, one of my go to beers. I tried their steaks in the past and loved them. They're daily specials are varied and look delicious.
We visited for lunch and had a pleasant experience. The sandwich I ordered was delicious, and the fries were tasty as well. The server was friendly and attentive. Though it was a bit on the pricey side for lunch, I still found the overall experience enjoyable and plan to return occasionally. Update: it remains a great spot to visit!
What a breath of fresh air! The service was excellent, the food was fantastic, and the prices were very reasonable. I grew up in Alpena/Ossineke, and these days, it’s rare to receive the level of service I used to expect. A big shoutout to Chloe, our wonderful server. I highly recommend the 19th Hole!
