My friend and I have been on the search for a great Laos Thai restaurant ever since our previous favourite and beloved restaurant, Laos Thai, had closed its business here in Winnipeg. After much research, we decided to give Vanxai's a try. We ordered the following dishes: Spring Rolls Papaya Salad (spice level 3) Shrimp Pad Thai Green Curry w/ Chicken We enjoyed the papaya salad, which had the perfect amount of heat at level 3 (their spice scale ranges from 1-5 with level 3 being hot and level 5 is inferno). A great find in the St. Vital area. Near the junction of St Anne 's and St Mary 's and easy to get to, it had a variety of Thai and Laotian dishes. The crab rangoon was excellent and the gang keow wan gai (green curry coconut soup with chicken was to die for. I had just spent 3 months in Thailand, and it was as good as any I had there. The service was excellent, the staff were friendly, and the dishes were huge. Many dishes were in the $14 to $15 range and could easily be shared by two people. The atmosphere felt like a friendly homestyle restaurant. Had a great time at this restaurant. We went to a few places that were fully booked and couldn't get us in at 6pm without a reservation on a saturday night. Luckily when we called there was plenty of space. At first entry, the booths look a little tired but are comfortable and offer plenty of space. Service was quick and easy and we were never left wanting or needing anything. The food was excellent, large portions and well priced. Its certainly a hidden gem for Laotian food in town! I’m usually not satisfied with many of Winnipeg restaurants and it’s hard to satisfy my taste! but when it comes to authentic Thai food Vanxai’s wins big times ! and if I could give them 10 stars I will ! Great customer Service, Amazing Thai food and taste, generous portions and reasonable price, clean, cute and welcoming atmosphere and on top of everything wonderful people! Thank you so much ! You NEED to try this!!!! Amazing Restaurant, probably the best Thai place in Winnipeg so far. Pad Thai here is absolutely delicious! We have gotten so many dishes and have always been exceptionally pleased with everything.They're open for dine in again, so check them out!! Trust me. You will not regret this decision. This place needs to get a lot busier for the quality of food they serve!!
Its been a long time since we were last here. It did not disappoint. Food was excellent, portions were massive. Spring rolls vegetable, are large, and they serve 5. We had Pad Thai with chicken and it was delicious and again heaping portions (enough for tomorrows dinner! Good pricing, wonderful service.
