Cool little spot in the heart of the Rutherford circle. It is a byob which is always fun. We started with the salad and bread (both were complimentary). Decent Ceasar dressing for sure! Bread was nice and traditional. We got the mussels as an app. They were cooked really well, and no shells broke into the sauce. Very soupy sauce, but in a good way. For the entre, we got the spaghetti and clams and the shrimp and linguini. Both seafood broths were decent. The clams were okay, but particularly, that day could have been fresher. What a find! In town for business and looking for local Italian, and could not have been happier with the food, atmosphere and experience at Volares. We arrived just at opening (5p on Tuesdays) and Mary walked us through the menu, specials and some recommendations. A across the board. It is BYOB, but there's a liquor/wine store a couple doors down to solve that problem. We used on street parking, and stuffing a few quarters in the meter was well worth it (free after 7p). Portions were huge, so I'm pretty sure previous reviews were talking about somewhere else as we were too full to try the desserts but will definitely be back, so will save room next time. Service was fantastic and authentic.
Unbelievable! This place is a must when you are visiting San Diego! I am an Italian from New York City and the food here was incredible! I loved it. This restaurant used to serve delicious food, but it has experienced a decline in both quality and portion sizes. The reputation of the restaurant in Rutherford is starting to suffer, as many others have also shared similar experiences. Volare needs to make some improvements and return to its former standards. It is really disappointing.

Under new ownership. Tomato sauce out of a jar, chicken francese sauce loaded with flour, management couldn’t care less pork chops listed on menu was plural, only served with one thin pork chop.
