Wai Heung Restaurant

I came upon the Wai Heung on a Saturday at around 1:00 pm and it was deserted. They have lunch specials which are traditional non traditional Westernized favourites but they do have a good menu of more traditional dishes I’ve tried and liked. This time I tried a special lean sweet and sour pork with fried rice. If you get steamed rice the special is $8.95! $10.95 if you have it with fried rice. A little on the sour scale but it’s probably the best sweet and sour on the island (which granted doesn’t say much as the Chinese food in Victoria isn’t fantastic). I give a five star rating based on owner friendliness alone. I got take out as the restaurant is not open due to staff shortages. I have yet to taste the food but will as soon as I get home! More reviews to follow. The food smells divine. (Later) Well I had the food and was disappointed with one of the dishes (Seafood and Vegetables chow funn). I won't order it again! All noodles with a smattering of seafood and vegetables. All for the outrageous price of 17.95! The honey garlic pork was ok. Nothing to write home about. Not sure if I will give them another try or not! It's out of my way to travel by bus and so far, I'm not impressed.

The food is excellent! They definitely have some talent in the kitchen... plus they're very kind friendly people. They obviously care about the food and their customer satisfaction. We go for lunch most Fridays, dinner occasionally and have never once been disappointed. Those people that complained about a hair in the food failed to mention they ate almost all of it and then took back the nearly empty containers. They were given a full refund even though they ate 90% of it. To top it off they go write that awful spiel. Tacky. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

Good food, and large selection with several vegetarians and spicy options. We found the portions to be huge, meaning leftovers for days. Went in on a Friday evening, around 5pm ordered take out, it was ready in less than 20 minutes and still super hot by the time I got home. 10% discount on pick up orders over $30 before taxes Hours (as of Jan 2018) Monday: Closed Tues Sat: 11am 2pm 4pm 9pm Sunday: 4pm 9pm

We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Clean restaurant, good portions, and pretty delicious. One thing to note we ordered sweet and sour chicken balls but they poured the sauce over it. Next time we'll ask for sauce on the side.

Great take out, really fast and kind service! Lots of delicious vegetarian options. Everything was well-seasoned with lots of sauce. Nothing too spicy either.
