To keep the high quality standards of the ambitious Restaurant Zum Beichtstuhl, the manager works close together with his sommelier to find every season Top German wines. The sommelier himself has the most impressive knowledge about each of his wines, their sugar contents, soil features, terroir etc. Together they offer about 40 different wines by glass, and will help all guests to find their perfect match. Not only newbies but also sophisticated wine experts will appreciate their selection, paired with some traditional and regional dishes. I highly recommend to have the Spundekas as a starter and continue with either a fresh salad, or a Schnitzel. There are pleasant outdoor seatings in summer available until 11 pm. But the inside of this historical building is of course breathtaking, including old German wooden art, but also somehow influenced with several empty bottles of wine be the owner himself. One will enjoy the whole experience as long as you do not question the passion and the knowledge of the manager; he truly loves what he is doing and he wants every guest to be happy with their selection. So explain openly your wishes and let yourself experience a culinary German wine tour. AND to all the people, who complain about the size of the dishes; the amount on each plate is more then plenty, the schnitzel is huge and even the side salad is filling. Good value!

In summer it's best to sit outside. Be early(for dinner) oor give out a wait. It's not a problem to share the table with other guests(given enough seats are available) Food is decent, prices maybe slightly higher than other similar locations, but for me all is made up for by the atmosphere of the location(inside&outside). Our service was friendly and spot on.

The Beichtstuhl is one of my favourite restaurants in Mainz. The menu changes with the seasons and there is always something new to discover. The food is a modern interpretation of dishes from the area and some classics always tasty. You will also get a good wine recommendation.

It is does what it seems to claim to be: good honest local food and some very nice wine at very reasonable prices. Make sure you leave room for a desert. The pancakes were great and the creme brulee was (apparently) brilliant.
