I hadn't visited Wonder Bagel in some time, and I stopped by their location on Route 440 in Jersey City, NJ. As I entered the store, I was greeted in the usual manner. However, it seems that COVID-19 has had a significant impact on them. The staff behind the counter was almost nonexistent. I placed my order and, while waiting, I examined the drink cooler. I was surprised to see such a limited selection of beverages. To my left, I noticed a machine that appeared to be broken. Overall, I was taken aback by the scarcity of drink options available.
The bagels are hard and chewy, and they taste like they were made days ago. The Pastrami and Taylor ham sandwiches have a meager amount of meat, with only a single thin slice of cheese. Everything is overpriced, and the prices for pastries at the front counter seem to vary daily based on the owner's whims. I will be returning to Wonder Bagels on SIP Ave in Jersey City or City Line in Bayonne. If the same owner operates all three locations, I will stop visiting altogether.
I ordered an everything egg bagel. Extremely fluffy and soft with the perfect crunch and no chewiness of the outside! They also offer tofu cream cheese which is pictured here (I ordered the vegetable cream cheese option) and it is done very well and closely resembles the taste of actually dairy cream cheese. All in all, perfectly pleased with this order.
Good bagels. Very busy but the lines do move fairly quickly. It can be chaotic at times especially when the orders pile up at the register looking for its owner. I've seen many times where someone us charged for things they did not order because how chaotic it can be. So beware of thus and make sure they don't charge you incorrectly. SMALL Bagels. Expensive. Service is rushed and with out a smile. Bagels are have gotten much smaller compared to yrs ago when they were larger. CHAOS reigns in this establishment.
