We very recently visited Yee's Palace for the first time.I booked a table, and when we arrived, we were quickly seated and promptly served by our waiter for the night, who was pleasant and efficient. She brought us a complimentary serve of prawn chips, which was unexpected. We both had the chicken in satay sauce as a main, and for my appetiser, I ordered the sesame prawn toast.I was pleased that the sesame prawn toast comprised four slices, as in some restaurants six slices are provided, which I find to be too much for one person. The food we ordered arrived quite quickly, and to my surprise, the satay chicken was a very generous size. Additionally, the pieces were quite large compared to what we have had in numerous other Chinese restaurants.Disappointingly, I found both the sesame prawn toast and the satay chicken to be very mild in flavour -- bordering on bland. The fried rice was pleasant enough, and comparable to fried rice I have had elsewhere. The prices were noticeably more expensive than other suburban Chinese restaurants we have visited over the years, but not outrageously so.We had soft drinks with our meals, although a selection of wines and beers is available. In the soft drink department, the offerings are from the Coca Cola range as opposed to the Pepsi range. As for the atmosphere, it is quite a westernised establishment, and apparently can be busy on Friday nights with takeaway available. The decor is not even remotely Asian-influenced, and there is a large, flat-screen TV mounted on the wall, which I found to be a decidedly unappealing adornment in a restaurant. As our visit was our first, it is difficult at this stage to form a solid opinion of the restaurant; and with respect to the food's flavour, I have seen inconsistency of flavour intensity depending on the chef rostered on that night, so I would need to try it again to see whether it is any different on a subsequent visit. To rate the restaurant on key criteria, at this early stage:Food taste: averageServe sizes: very goodService: pleasant and promptAtmosphere: lacking and westernisedPrices: relatively expensive, but not over-the-topWhile we were not wowed by Yee's Palace, I am happy to try it at least once more to see if my impressions of the food taste change.
