The food and the ambiance at the restaurant atop of La Cite du Vin was amazing, the stand was friendly. Beautiful views of the river and Downtown Bordeaux as well. Will come back for sure/

Let's start with the good news. The staff are friendly. That's it. The service was slow and when orders started to arrive they brought the wrong items. My wife and I both ordered a Thai style stir fried beef dish. What came bore no resemblance whatsoever to any form of Asian cuisine never mind Thailand. The meat was just fat and sinew. Simply inedible. We could not eat it. Would never dream of eating here ever again.

We think that we were lucky to get a table as the restaurant was very busy. The only place left was at the window on tall stools and in full sunshine. The service was good considering how busy it was. The meal comes on a wooden tray with the food in 3 small glass shaped bowls. This must be an easy way for the waiters to serve. Main course in one bowl, veg in another and sweet in the final one. I had loup de mer (fish) in a beurre blanc sauce which was delicious served with tiny new potatoes and green beans. The other meal was veal again with the potatoes and green beans - also tasty. Then Iles flottantes which is custard and meringues - nice but rather sweet. We enjoyed the food but would have preferred not to be seated in the window. But we were lucky to be seated.

A walk through the museum followed by a taste of different wines in France was what we needed. We were given a debit card to access the tasting bar wine which we also have in Sydney. We three reds and a white, enough to say this was a good day.Positives: staff explain to you how to access the wine bar on your own

After spending good time at La cite du vin, this is where you have to stop. You can find all good wines from all over the world.

Portions are small. The beef entree included a lot of gristle. Salads were the best value. You're paying a lot for the convenience of eating at this location. Servers were very very busy. Plan ahead to avoid eating here. The wine bar which dispensed wine by the glass looked interesting but we only noticed it as we left.

For me, this saved an otherwise disappointing visit to the Cité du Vin. The food - charcuterie and cheese board for us - was excellent, the wine vending machine was a lot of fun and a great way to try some different wines, and it wasn't too expensive. Recommended.

Had lunch here as part of our tour of the museum. It is a mid-range restaurant on the ground floor with inside and outside options. You may want to arrive early as it gets really busy after 12:30. We had 3 courses: Poulet + 2 bean salad + a floating island and some wine which came to 48 Euros. Personable staff gets busy as it fills up. At the back of the wine boutique. Note:Unless they have changed the protocol, don't leave the museum section of the building to have lunch expecting to return to the museum as they say "non" and wag their fingers for emphasis. Something about a sign which apparently we didn't see.
