I don't know about you, but I like my food to be tasty, pretty and eaten in a nice restaurant with good, friendly, attentive service. That is precisely what we found here on a recent trip to Bordeaux. Found the restaurant on Bib Gourmand, and tried. it. We three all had the shark that was served that night (and it was very good and as a rule - always order the special!), one had oysters, the others Aubergine for an entree that was also very good and some had the panna cotta with mango which was beautiful and tasty and I had the absolute BEST, most beautifully presented Mouelleux au Chocolat I have ever had occasion to eat. It was amazing! Kudos to the chef! Dinner for 3 with 3 courses and wine was 120 Euros - a very reasonable sum for what we experienced. The restaurant is nice, kind of a cosy, relatively modern atmosphere and in a great location (this is a GREAT street for food!). Yes - would definitely go back.

Aurelie has a really nice ambience to it and the waitstaff are all fantastic. The food needs to step up a notch to become a repeat visit, though. The guacamole tastes reminiscent of the store bought kind, and the entrecôte is a lot fattier than one might find at a typical bistro. Some hard pieces in the strawberry/marscarpone dessert, though those strawberries were bursting with flavor. The wines are quite good.

The good bits: The restaurant is easily found on a corner plot along the lower end of Rue St Remi. It is attractive and spacious and we found the service attentive. What drew us in was a sign written in English. My French language skill are not too bad but even I need help with deciphering French menus. NOTE: No menu is advertised outside. You'll find out why.The bad bits: An extremely limited menu that is both hum drum and very, very expensive for what it is. My wife started with mushroom ravioli which was very tasty but she only had 3 or 4 small ravioli to pick from. I on the other hand had fish soup that although tasty was barely lukewarm. The wine we chose was OK but at 31 euros a bottle (at the cheaper end of their list) I expected more than just OK.The main dishes were served. My wife ordered a burger cooked medium. Who wants to go to Bordeaux and eat a burger but there were only 4 mains choices and my wife fancied none of the other options. When the burger was served the bun was singed (over toasted) and the burger was raw inside and cold. the French might eat cold burgers but my wife didn't ask for this so the burger was returned. I had to eat my meal pretty much on my own which was a very mediocre bit of salmon in a sauce but I've had better Birdseye products from the freezer in my local supermarket. When the burger finally reappeared some while later we were shocked to find that it was the same burger that had been recooked so all the cheese had melted to oblivion and the garnish was limp and shrivelled. Now the bun was cold. Maybe I was wrong to expect a fresh burger but we live and learn! We declined a desert or coffee. The total bill was 91 euros for 2 x beers, a bottle of wine, a raw burger and poncy chips in a mug, a tepid bowl of fish soup and a mediocre salmon fillet and some lettuce leaves chucked in.I tend to vote with my feet and I'll never be going to Le Bistrot again!Take a tip. The very smart restaurant immediately opposite Le Bistrot serves infinitely better food for much less cost AND they even have a English language Menu.Believe me if I could have given just one star to accompany this review I would have. You have been warned.

Stumbled upon this place. Menu was very short, but everything beautifully presented and fresh. I had fish soup and then lobster club sandwich from the specials board, followed by fresh strawberries and cream, all with a pleasant rose. First class. The service was very good and the attention to detail remarkable. I watched one of the 3 waiters who seemed to be responsible for glasses as well as serving check every glass he issued for marks. All very good and would go back again.

We were attracted by the Cote de Boeuf and we were not disappointed as it was delicious. The service was also exceptionally good and we were made to feel very welcome. The only criticism would be minor in that the tables were quite small and quite close together but that really didn't detract from a very good evening.

Simple ingredients ,well cooked and presented. The waiter was was friendly and helpful. Filled up with French people as the evening went on,always a a good sign I think. The second carafe d'eau was S chilled as the first, another good indication I have found.

interior looks fine and cosy. Service staff is good and friendly. Food quality was a big disappointment ! Fish soup from the house didn't smell OK and was not tasting OK. Not fresh at all. After we indicated we were not happy with the soup ; it was taken off the menu that evening !!!! A plate of scallops to share was offered as a compromise. Scallops were not prepared well. Main course was catch of the day - what can one do wrong with that? Apparently a lot. Chef is more camouflaging the inability to prepare a decent meal by making painting of every dish with a lot of sauces and drops of pestos and sirops that are not at all matching with the dish.

on our monthly visits to Bordeaux we usually choose this Bistrot for the friendly staff and excellent quality of food. 18 euros for 3 course lunch which is never the same and always has unusual and interesting flavours. Highly recommended and conveniently just off the rue St Catherine.
