I have been here twice and I would NEVER return under any circumstances. I know it is well reviewed and a popular destination, but I would suggest, that would be only if you comply to the patrons criteria of what you should be eating. Meat eaters, go and enjoy and you will be treated royally as the other reviews will bear testament.. otherwise abstain and keep your intergrity Last night I went there as part of a party of 18.. I only knew one person but as I had eaten there once before and had experienced a very embarassing situation with the patron over the fact that I do not eat flesh ON A DATE ( it was excrutiating) my friend actually went there the day before to ensure that there would be a fully vegetarian dish for me, ie that the vegetables would not be cooked in a meat / flesh based stock. So my friend actually physically visited the place the day before and when I ordered I respecified in very clear terms this criteria. I have been living in France for 25 years, have been a vegetarian for 35 years and express myself perfectly well in French When my dish arrived it was a fish dish. When I asked for just vegetables, he started treating me in very insulting way, saying it was not his fault and that I had ordered fish I repeated my order and then he proceeded to speak to other guests at the table as if i was not even there, saying it was my fault and that he had given me a vegetarian dish Pescatarian yes, vegetarian no. I explained to him again what I could eat.. I did not want to to make a fuss and if I am a vegetarian , it is because I have a firm committment to non violence! His attitude was over bearing and cruel. He carried on striding up and down the stairs blaming my friend and then me.. and offered me no alternative to the fish dish. Last time I went there, the story was just about the same after I had specified the non flesh stock issue which he had guaranteed except that time, just as he I was about to put the food in my mouth, he walked past , bent over and told me that the vegetables had been cooked in chicken stock! That time, wanting to crawl under the table, i played around with the dish, paid and left. This time, I left the place BEFORE the meal which had been a very lovely ambiance before his fawlty toweresque antics. The man behaved in an appalling, rude, condemning and bigotted fashion. My face was blazing all the ride home, and I just hope it did not spoil the vibe at the party. I do not cause scenes and not knowing barely a soul in this crowd with this condemning attitude from a service provider was so embarrassing. He obviously has some issue with non meat eaters.. so, in a nut shell, if you are committed to not eating meat, do not be duped and find somewhere else. Appalling.

An excellent gem in a side street. We'd tried the two top-rated restaurants here but they were booked out. Called in here on the off and luckily got a table as the place quickly filled up and many people were turned away. Excellent, fresh-flavoured tagines and harissa and great service from the single server who moved around the floor like a dancer.

Our friends who have a house near Forcalquier took us here whilst we were staying with them. It is their favourite restaurant in the town and we understood why once we had eaten there. We booked the day before during the wonderful Monday market and were sorry not to be able to stay for the fish couscous speciality of the day. However, our meal of 'bricks' (large triangles of delicious light pastry stuffed with meats or vegetables) followed by a selection of tagine and a couscous dish showed us what excellent cooking there is to be had in this small restaurant which is open to a charming alleyway off the main square. We also drank well, red Moroccan wine proving every bit as good as local French. A misunderstanding in the ordering meant that the two members of our party who wanted sweet Moroccan tea didn't get it, so we all shared a pot of unsweetened with sugar for those who needed it. A good evening out.

I had a lamb/prune tajine and it was excellent. The coucous wonderful. The service perfect, the atmosphere friendly and cozy. I will be going there again the next time I'm in Forcalquier.

I went here with friends while visiting friends in France over the holidays. Amazing couscous and stewed meats, sausages and such. Loved the mint tea! Fun atmosphere! They don't take credit cards.

We love this restaurant. The food is fresh and delicious. The Tajens are my favorite.Monday is fresh fish couscous from the Monday street market in Forcalquier, the largest market in Provence. The owner, Karim, is delightful & always welcomes us on a first name basis. Be sure to order a tea and watch with delight as he pours it from high above his head into your cup.
