Having passed this place on a few occasions as it was right next door to our Hotel (Hotel des Artistes) we decided to call in for a late drink one night.How embarrassed we were (after we left) to discover a small note stuck to the door saying “Salon Privee” (Private Party)! however this did not seem to matter to the staff or the customers whose party it was. We were very warmly welcomed, immediately shown to stools at the bar and served drinks. We were even offered a food menu at 11pm but declined so cannot comment on the food. However, if the food is as good as the atmosphere one will not be disappointed.The staff asked us what kind of music we liked and extended an invitation to my wife to make her own selections from the laptop behind the bar. Everyone appreciated her choices.This bijo vaulted bar / restaurant, offers very, very personable service and an extremely warm, if not quirky welcome to all. Its customers likewise chatted with us and made us feel equally welcome and at home.After 3 or 4 drinks and well past our intended departure, we reluctantly asked for the bill. We pointed out they had undercharged for my wife’s wine and they simply brushed this aside saying it was their treat.We left to a mass of handshakes and cheek kissing from everyone. We very much look forward to returning and meeting our new friends.A very different experience than we had expected and a real treat!Thanks guys!
