Good drinks and great meatMy husband and I got reservations ahead of time but probably didn't need them for 5PM on a Friday.

I'm quite the steak (and meat) lover so was looking forward to this resto recommended by several friends.

What I enjoyed most about this place as much as the food was the atmosphere.

Lunch at this small pearl, you need google maps to get there! Good Q/P and a fine lunch and a nice winelist. That day only 4 guest, the chef likes music while he works, Led Zeppelin and so on , but food is good.Seek it out if toy are in the area.

It isn't really necessary to add anything over and above the title to this review. Hands down the most superb gastronomy we have had in the region over many years. The menu and quality of cuisine sits head and shoulders above all else in the vicinity and would grace the table of ANY restaurant ANYWHERE in the world. Knowledgable and friendly staff, including the chef, also rightly share their enthusiasm for the quality of dining and the standard of ingredients used. A full evening of devine food that we will remember for a long time.

...to be in the southern part of France.Because the service feels genuine. Because the food holds generally high quality (I think they got a new chef), and because the outside "patio" is a wonderful place to enjoy a nice time with family or friends. Or both. It's a local place in "the middle of nowhere", but definitely worth a trip if you're not so far away anyway.

Forgive the length of this review in advance but there is a lot to say about this wonderful restaurant near Montauroux in the Var.We have vacationed in the region for over twenty years but had neglected Montauroux until we were in the area buying furniture. On the way to the town centre for lunch we passed the Carre d'Ange and recalled a visit perhaps fifteen years earlier and booked a table for dinner on Easter Sunday (they were full for lunch).Under new ownership for the past two years, the restaurant has undergone a transformation. The garden was always magical, with an old well and tables set amid lovely trees and flowers. Alas it was too cold to dine outside despite the glorious spring day.We were greeted enthusiastically by one waiter who attended us and the other guests copiously. The menu was fixed and notionally comprised six courses but actually more with nibbles to go with aperitifs and a chocolate collection to end.We started with an amuse bouche of artichoke ravioli (pour vous mettre en bouche). This was followed by an egg in light batter with a variety of mushrooms and fresh peas (L’œuf BIO petits pois et morilles fraîches). The fish course was scallops with chorizo (St Jacques rôties à l’unilatérale, chorizo iberico cular). Our meat dish was three varieties of lamb all cooked perfectly and sourced from the farm opposite the restaurant (Trilogie d’agneau flanqué de petits légumes de printemps). The cheese course (penultimate in France) included an innovative ewe's milk ice cream which didn't quite work but had great style and taste (Fromage frais de l’autre côté de la route). And, finally, we ended with a complex chocolate pyramid with a red fruit sorbet (Gourmandise au chocolat de Pâques). The waiter recommended an excellent white wine from Provence which was a pleasant surprise, given that we only usually drink rose from the region. The meal was not cheap, at €72 per person for the set menu and €60 for the excellent wine but it was perhaps the best meal we have eaten in the region and great value by Michelin standards (which it is very close to).We will definitely return for a special meal in the garden in the summer.

We were really excited to try Le Carre d'Ange - we've been coming to the area for 10 years and had heard good reviews. On the positives - service was good and our waiter was delightful. However the food was very disappointing! My melon and iberico ham was terrible (melon balls which I haven't seen since the 1980's, with a very small piece of ham and strange sugary egg whites on top) my husband had the snails which actually tasted good, but again came with a strange eggy mess). Both main courses were very average ( my husbands lamb was adequate but my red mullet was under cooked, cold and unpleasant). A real disappointment after the reviews we had read and definitely not cheap.
