"We booked using 'The Fork' so table reserved very easily. Sat at table on covered terrace with our dog, no problem. Very busy, but good attentive service, staff friendly and patient with our poor French - they have a menu in English too- useful especially if names of fish aren't your forte! Lovely food, a bit pricey but we really enjoyed it."

We'd picked L'Islandais based on Cunliffe's recommendation in the Channel Pilot. It didn't disappoint. We shared a charcuterie board between three of us. Not bad.Main: My wife had smoked haddock with pureed potato and leeks - very nice but small portions. My daughter had the scallops which were good but again - not substantial. I had a lobster - which at the market price came in at €70. The waiter had told me that I needed a 500gm beast; and that they were €10 per 100gms. Having ordered one such creature - she came and told me that they only had a 700gm lobster left - then brought the soon-to-be-dinner crustacean out for me to admire. Have to say it was excellent - simply grilled and lots of meat - which you'd expect at the price.Puddings - now there's another story. They were magnificent creations of alcohol, ice cream, chantilly and fruits - all huge and all delicious. My steer: drop the starter - leave room for desert.

We stopped here for lunch on a visit to Paimpol . Many restaurants along the harbour to choose from all with similar but varying menus . Definitely all great locations to enjoy all sorts of fish and seafood and all very busy . This place caught our fancy . We were promptly seated on the patio . Pleasant place to sit and while away a bit of time . Tables are close . Interesting to watch the other diners and tables laden with huge seafood towers . Good selection of meats on the menu as well as fish . My husband chose the Filet De Boeuf. My choice was the Faux Fillet which was served in a small pot . Attractive looking and tasted excellent . Deserts were varied and I chose the Crepe Caramel . Excellent choice. Very pleased with our lunch , service was excellent , food delicious and ambiance superb .

A fantastic lunch en route to the Ile de Brehat. Chosen on the basis of the numbers in the restaurant and while we had to wait a short while for the table, the wait was absolutely worth it. Our waiter was very helpful (and spoke good English), especially as we had one with a number of allergies. Recommendations were great and accompanied by a very nice white wine. 2 of us went for the 22€ set menu which was fantastic value for money, 6 oysters and local terrine to start followed by a very delicate local fish dish, perfectly sized ahead of half cooked chocolate cake and the local Far Breton with prunes. Divine. Would definitely return again if in the area.

We almost left due to horrible table neighbours , but I'm glad we soldiered through and stayed until desert! L'islandais may look like a tourist trap, but they have fresh produce (their platters looked amazing and everyone seemed to enjoy them) and excellent cooking skills. We had the 31 euro menu, which gives you a decent choice of sea food as well as some meats (not the house specialty). All in all, on a busy night, the food was quite good (the Kouign Amman with peanut ice cream were an absolute delight), but the staff was overwhelmed. They lose a star solely because of that.
