Nice little restaurant with intimate dining room- typical Winstub Excellent menu choice and food quality (would thoroughly recommend the steak tartare) The service was probably the best and friendliest I have came across in France, and the waiter provided some entertainment making the tartare at the table. Would thoroughly recommend!

We spent 5 days in Strasbourg and loved having dinner in the typical Alsatian restaurant. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We used to live in Strasbourg and had eaten there before and were happy to see the quality was still excellent. It is a small place, easy to miss, on a little side street...reservations recommended !

Not the first time we came here for dinner and won't be the last either. The dishes are typical for the region and good. Everything is home made and the deserts are delicious. This visit we did miss Thierry's usually joking and fun manner. He decided to be less vocal and make less to none jokes as some people did not appreciate his unusual humour. He's a special character and makes us regular guests laugh a lot.His grumpy and fun ways belong to this place as the good food does. It's unfortunate when the host feels the need to change because of a few people that don't appreciate humour.

This is the opposite of an average place for tourist: both the food and the owner have a strong personality. If you're looking for a convivial place you'll feel home in no time. Imagine to go eat at that uncle of yours that lives far away, the one with a weird sense of humour and that happens to be an incredible cook, and you'll get a glimpse of the experience. The decor is something to see. The choucroute, the meatballs and the waedele are simply great. Strongly recommended.

Very typical local kitchen, not suited for vegetarians/vegans. The sauerkraut is very good. Watch out for the fresh horseradish you get with it, it's real good and spicy. The owner will talk you through the menu in a variety of languages and give you advice on wine. Just go with it, he's always right. He also has a very special humour you will either love or hate. Very cool place and nice staff. And do book your table as the place is always full.

We were able to book on a Saturday night for that evening, which saved us from probably a meal at one of the giant tourist driven restaurants. I high season I'm sure you'll have to book more than just a few hours ahead. Saint Thomas Stuebel has an un-inspiring facade but inside it's a snug and interesting, with about 20 tables close together with gingham tablecloths. The menu is typical Alsace fare, very hearty and filling, but not really refined in any way, so I enjoyed the first few mouthfuls but couldn't quite finish it off. The Choucroutte (similar to sauerkraut, with various kind of pork) is a speciality and came with little burners to keep it warm. The clientele seemed to be a mix of locals and braver tourists willing to try something just a hundred meters or so away from the main tourist hub.Our main memory though is the owner, who has a very gregarious style and speaks whatever language you'd prefer :) You'll either love him or find him a bit over bearing.Overall, good value, probably deserves to be higher in the TA rankings for Strasbourg
