We were able to book on a Saturday night for that evening, which saved us from probably a meal at one of the giant tourist driven restaurants. I high season I'm sure you'll have to book more than just a few hours ahead. Saint Thomas Stuebel has an un-inspiring facade but inside it's a snug and interesting, with about 20 tables close together with gingham tablecloths. The menu is typical Alsace fare, very hearty and filling, but not really refined in any way, so I enjoyed the first few mouthfuls but couldn't quite finish it off. The Choucroutte (similar to sauerkraut, with various kind of pork) is a speciality and came with little burners to keep it warm. The clientele seemed to be a mix of locals and braver tourists willing to try something just a hundred meters or so away from the main tourist hub.Our main memory though is the owner, who has a very gregarious style and speaks whatever language you'd prefer :) You'll either love him or find him a bit over bearing.Overall, good value, probably deserves to be higher in the TA rankings for Strasbourg
