On our canal boat in France, and as much as we hated the marina at Vitry-Le-François because of the excessive weed in the water and the bike thieves, the town is very pretty and this restaurant was a great surprise. Delightful staff, great menu and wine list and a lovely ambience. It was my husband's birthday and we were joined by our son and friend, and they bought out a little cake with a candle ❤️with dessert. We shared 3 starters including the calamari which was FANTASTIC and I had the poulet and John had the duck for our mains - both were delicious. The boys had burgers French style and LOVED them. Winelist was fab and we had a great night. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Starters were around €10 and mains €15-19.
We arrived on a mid week evening and booked a table for 7 o'clock , it was quiet when we arrived but by the time we left two hours later it was absolutely full mainly locals.The food was excellent I had the calamari which was cooked in the lightest batter ever, followed by duck which was great. My wife had The house pâté which was delicious followed by one of the special fish dishes, which was one of the best fish courses she had ever hadThe service was excellent and the ambience is lovely. A great find
Having read previous reviews of this restaurant, we decided it was worth a slight detour on our journey south from Calais to enjoy a good evening meal. We were not disappointed. Ample free car parking nearby, we were allocated a table by the window just after evening opening, and the restaurant was very soon full which gave confidence that the food would be good. Proprietor gave us some help reading the menu, plenty of choices, quality of food excellent. Good ambiance and clean and comfortable. Well worth the detour, and recommended.
Overnight stop on our way home to the UK. We took a walk around this pleasant town and were taken by the look of this restaurant. It was quite early so there were no diners but we decided to give it a chance.A friendly reception and we were given the choice of a window seat. Always a pleasure for 'people watchers'. As the evening progressed the restaurant filled and developed a reassuring buzz. It seems locals and travellers alike were attracted to this establishment.The food was excellent. Freshly prepared, cooked with great skill, well presented and most importantly very tasty. The staff were lovely. Helpful, cheerful yet efficient.We went away well fed and happy.
We stayed at the countryside for a couple of days and we arrived quite late in the afternoon.Restaurant De France as it is called nowadays, has the first place in this town for restaurants, so the choice was made quite easily.And our choice did not let us down! Great food, nice wine and a lovely service in French/English-ish, but the dessert .Spare some room for that if you are visiting Restaurant De France!
