We eat here regularly, being local. It is a gem of a local watering hole. Lots of local characters regularly come and go to give it a real sense of community. There's a daily/nightly special weekdays for $10, well worth the price. There are several separate areas where there is usually a table to grab. And there are extra board specials mostly under $20 which are generally terrific quality. And good quality wines by the glass at good prices. After a day of gardening we decided a beer and a meal was in order. We headed for Abbotts as it has one of the most interesting and inventive menus of our local pubs. I was not disappointed. The special of rare "striploin" with warm potato salad and Brussels sprouts really hit the spot. Have just spent 2 weeks in Hawaii for work, and enjoyed some of the Brussels sprouts concoctions in craft beer pubs there, so good to have it again back home.Other half had the menu crispy fish and chips, tasty as always. Abbotts Hotel is one of my locals, and has been for over 10 years. The beer is great, and so is the service. However, the standout feature of Abbotts Hotel is the food. The menu has far more diversity than the average pub, including yummy things like a gourmet cauliflower soup (one of tonight's specials). The menu changes frequently, and the food is always amazingly delicious. The cuisine definitely has a strong Mediterranean influence. The Niciose salad is not always on the menu, although other delicious salads are, but if the Nicoise salad is available, get it. It is a s good as anything I have had outside Nice.
This pub is definitely understated. It looks as if it has recently been refurbished, it's clean and has great service. Some of the regulars leave a little to be desired, but this all adds to its character, and you certainly get roped in to some odd conversations! It's cheeky and the food is absolutely delicious! I am thrilled to have a restaurant like this in the area, but there were a few quirks. The opening times were odd and not as advertised, it seemed like the staff were drinking on the job, and the portions of fish were a bit small. I hope they address these issues because we would love to continue dining here.
The food here is simply fabulous at such affordable prices!I had surf and turf and it was cooked to perfection!Friends had the burgers (one pork one beef) and they loved them! Another had a gorgeous fisherman's basket that she drooled over!I'd come again next time I'm in town!
