I would like to share some feedback from our visit yesterday evening at 8:00 Saturday 14th February 2026. I am extremely disappointed with our recent visit to Bangkok House in Oxford city centre. We have been loyal customers for many years and always loved coming here, but since the location moved, the quality has completely gone downhill. We had a reservation for 8pm on Valentine’s Day and were really looking forward to a special evening. Instead, we experienced some of the worst service we’ve ever had. I visited Bangkok House in Oxford while in the city for a project with .... , needing a quick dinner before my train. I ordered the classic phat kaphrao—a dish I have enjoyed in many places around the world—so I was keen to see their take on it. The food arrived in attractive Thai-style dishes, but the flavours didn’t quite deliver: the basil was noticeably sparse, and the overall taste felt muted rather than vibrant and aromatic. A dish that usually sings with holy basil, chilli, and savoury depth was just “OK” rather than memorable here. Staff were friendly, though service felt somewhat rushed. It was an okay option for a fast meal, but not one I would repeat.
Ordered from deliveroo and it was disappointing at best. Very expensive, small portions, and bland food. There was hardly any meat in the pork and duck dishes we ordered. Pork was dry and duck was very average. Chicken satay skewers were dry and lacked flavour. Worst of all it gave us both a bad stomach within 20 minutes after eating. They also advertised a free beer with orders above £40 but there was no beer.. Waste of £45.. won’t be ordering from them again.
The overall atmosphere was okay, the seafood pad Thai was quite bland with some incredibly chewy calamari, the beef was okay, nice sauce but quite chewy. What felt a bit extra meh was the fact that even tho the experience was meh the server proceeded to round the payment to £60 even tho the whole total was £57, now I understand this is marginal, but with the food being as mid as it was, this type of penny pinching leaves me with no desire to return.

The crab fried rice was quite nice and definitely the highlight of the meal. However, the Pad Thai was just okay; it lacked that signature depth of flavor, and it felt like the kitchen might have been struggling a bit with the heat control on the wok. It’s not a destination spot that I’d go out of my way for, but it’s a decent enough option if you are near the station and hungry.
Super attentive staff and amazing food. The restuarant had a warm atmosphere and the food came wonderfully presented and cooked perfectly. Grilled chicken was succulent and tasty, rice and noodles were warm and soothing and the papaya salad was fresh and flavourful. Items were also well priced, me and my partner had a lovely evening, will be coming back another time :
My favorite place to eat in Oxford. Everything I 've tried here has been exceptional and the service is always friendly. I miss their old place across the street but their 'newer ' location is modern and very well decorated. I 'll be back again. Highly recommended.
Amazing food. Best Thai I've had in the UK. The massaman, red curry, dumplings and sticky rice are particularly outstanding. Staff are really helpful, good, well-priced wine selection, very chilled dining.
