"Staff are excellent, but todays all day breakfast was disappointing. The toast was cold and obviously buttered a long time before serving, the sausage was over cooked and hard. Other establishments in the town offer better value."

My wife and I visited for lunch on valentine's day. We had to queue which was expected to be honest but finally got a seat after approx 40 minutes. As ever the cafe is lovely and the staff were as attentive as they could given how busy it was. The food however was a little disappointing. We both had Rosti mine was with raclette cheese and bacon, and my wife had the Florentine with spinach, tomatoes and mushroom. Unfortunately both were a little undercooked leaving the potato quite soggy and unappetising. Although not the worst meal we've eaten, the prices Betty's charge should mean perfection, especially given that Rosti is a Betty's speciality. This isn't the first time we've been disappointed at Betty's either we've chalked previous issues up as one offs but it's now happened enough to put us off visiting at all, which is a shame.

We’ve been several times before but think it’s our last. Lovely building and old fashioned style but vastly overpriced. I had the Yorkshire Rarebit which was very bland at c£17 and my husband had the Swiss Breakfast at c£18 rosti with egg, 1/2 tomato, mushroom and rasher of bacon. Very poor value for money. Service is good and very nice staff but at that price we did not leave a tip as I hope Bettys are paying their staff more than average pay!

We came in for a light lunch of a sandwich and pot of tea. I had a chicken salad sandwich, served with a few leaves and side salad. It was quite a nice sandwich but very small and very expensive at about £8. The tea was nice but again pricey at £6 per pot. We then bought cakes to takeaway as well as packets of ground coffee which had been substantially reduced. The cakes are super quality and I don't mind paying for them. Service is formal.

Today i have ordered an afternoon tea takeaway for the 21st November from Betty’s Northallerton. I rang and received a pleasant greeting. My order was taken and repeated back to me as we had to change the sandwich order, due to a fish and seafood allergy. The person was polite, courteous and professional. I would recommend this service to anyone who is wanting an afternoon tea, and have not got the time to visit the tearoom.
