We stayed in room 14 in the bunkhouse and it was very comfortable and well done. However be warned that you will get zero sleep staying here. The walls are extremely thin and not insulated. We had someone above us pacing at all hours of the night. We excitedly had dinner at the restaurant on our first night and had horrible service. We waited for menus for 20 minutes before asking for them again. My burger came out 25 minutes before my husband’s and I was completely done by the time his arrived. Our meal included a beer which we paid for but were not told about. We also dined outside away from the live music inside, in that we couldn’t hear it whatsoever but were charged a $5 cover charge EA...
This was our first trip to the Highlands, and we stayed at the Highlander Mountain House to attend a concert featuring the incredible Stephen Wilson Jr. Our room was in the Bunk House, and we absolutely loved the space and the balcony. The elevated rustic charm of the place is delightful! Each room has its own character, and the common areas in the main house are equally inviting. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. I want to give a special shout-out to Catherine in the dining area, who went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic seat for the performance. She was so gracious and kind! We have a picture as proof of our great experience. We will definitely return...
We had a lovely experience at the restaurant. It was our first time visiting for lunch, and the atmosphere on the veranda was fantastic, enhanced by the beautiful weather. My husband ordered the Steak and Pimento Cheese, which resembled a South Philippine-style cheesesteak—absolutely delicious! I opted for the Turkey, Bee, and Apple dish, featuring thick slices of turkey that reminded me of a Thanksgiving dinner. The apples were boiled, which wasn't really to my taste as it made the bread a bit soggy, but the overall flavors were wonderful. I was particularly impressed by the service; they remained composed and attentive even when we arrived unexpectedly. Great job!
I had lunch today, and it was a wonderful experience! The outdoor seating was beautiful, accompanied by great background music. The service was quick and friendly. We started with the Ahi Tuna appetizer, which was excellent. My husband and I both ordered the grilled cheese with crab sandwich and Lobster Bisque. It was the best bisque I've had in a long time, and the sandwich was also incredibly delicious. I will definitely return when I'm in the area!

I just found my new favorite restaurant in Highlands! The Ruffed Grouse Tavern was fantastic, and the waitstaff were the most delightful and engaging people in town. We enjoyed a perfect brunch there, and I highly recommend the chocolate chip pancakes and avocado toast. The scenery is beautiful, and it's conveniently located right by Main Street. This spot is a must-visit while in Highlands!
The food is excellent, the service is warm and welcoming, and everything is reasonably priced. It's tough to find a local restaurant that makes you want to come back.
