(Last visited 7/29/2021. As a very popular and local favorite I 've been to this place a couple of times, but have never gotten around to doing an actual Yelp review! Shame on me. Well, now it 's time! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right downtown Hartford on Asylum Street is this gem. It 's located underneath the awesome Pig 's Eye Pub and has a very casual, yet, upscale feel to it. There 's red everywhere, dark woods, high ceilings, great music and a lot of room. There 's like 3 separate dining areas and even a place for live music. I haven 't seen a show here in quite a while, but it 's such a good time when they get a good jazz band in here. We enjoyed a delightful dining experience with fantastic food and a vibrant atmosphere. As walk-in guests, we had to wait a bit for a table inside, but there was a live band playing, which made the wait enjoyable and lively. However, the service did feel a bit overstrained, and the bar seemed understaffed, leading to a long wait for drinks that arrived only after we had finished our starters, which was disappointing. On the bright side, the food was outstanding. We began with absolutely delicious gumbo, followed by a half rack of ribs served with flavorful slaw, rice, and beans. The Most Satisfying meal I've had in Hartford CT. I came in here thinking it was the bar next door but I wasn't exactly sure what I was in the mood for. I looked through their menu and settled on the 2 piece chicken lunch special. The collard greens were some of the best I've had around the country, the Mac and cheese was very creamy and cheesy and the Chicken was perfect and seasoned in a fish fry spiced kind of breading. I am glad I only got 2 pieces as anymore would have been bad in that I wouldn't have stopped cause it was so good. If your in this area come in to this place and if your thinking of getting the chicken Do it it's delicious...
If you're in the area, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit! The photos don't do the food justice—it's truly delicious! Just a heads up, make sure to make a reservation ahead of time because it fills up quickly. My friend and I sat at the bar, which allowed us to enjoy both food and drinks. One thing I found a bit odd is that they close at 9:30 PM on a Saturday, especially since it's the weekend and there were plenty of people out and about.

Basically open mic night meets Village Vanguard in Hartford Connecticut tonight. The jazz was great and food even better. Southern fried chicken. Done. The corn bread with honey butter was decadent. Actually some of the best collard greens I’ve ever had. Jazz flute was just icing on the cake. Did I mention the Sally’s Sip cocktail, Georgia Peach with gentle aromas like Buddha’s hand.
Tastes like a warm hug from Mom! The food was incredibly delicious — the cheddar grits were so amazing that we had to take some home! The buttermilk ranch sauce that accompanied the fried green tomatoes was irresistibly good. Our waitress, Sierra, was fantastic and super friendly. You really can’t go wrong at this place!
The service was incredibly slow, taking two hours from beginning to end. The server mixed up our drink and food orders, and also forgot to bring the cornbread that is supposed to accompany the entrees. Unfortunately, Black Eyed Sally's has been declining for years, and I think it's time for me to stop going.
Found this place on yelp and was in love with the menu so we had to try it out. Y'all my husband is still talking about the corn bread! I loved the shrimp and grits and will be back soon for more !!! And the art inside is just amazing See yall next weekend for DMB weekend we can't wait!

GREAT tasteful food! Altho some of it cold: . Inexplicably, band was 10x louder than they should have been. People were eating and music unbearably stomach churning loud. Some shrieking Dessert practically non-existent. Service pleasant but very very slow.
