Our anniversary and we always enjoy our meals at one of the last pony restaurants in our area . A perfect celebration from the moment we left the car with the valet. The decor is wonderfully traditional with racing mementos and jockey silks in the reception area while quietly elegant in the dining rooms. The food is impeccable. Many restaurants list a shrimp cocktail appetizer; however, one that I won't share with darling is hard to find. I strongly suggested he get his own. This is my favorite place for an excellent prime rib meal, a perfect medium rare. The service was also excellent. This visit we reconnected with Jeffery (previously at Houston's). He is definitely an asset for The Derby...
The carpet is disgusting, outdated, and needs to be replaced. From the lounge, I shouldn't see the urinal or smell the men's room. Lounge chairs are wobbly, lights are out on the jockey caricature above the bar, greeter was unpleasant, server was competent, services was adequate, steak was overpriced, but outstanding. Clean it up. Cheer up, and get back to it. You're missing the details and there's literally no spark. After 100 years, I don't care. I want a complete experience.
To be honest, the wait between courses was a bit longer than we would have liked. I understand that extending the serving time for larger groups can be beneficial, but since it was just the two of us, the long pauses weren't ideal. It might be helpful to ask diners if they prefer a leisurely experience or if they would like their dishes served promptly. That said, the service was excellent, and the food was fantastic. We have no major complaints! We will definitely return.
Made reservation and had wait. What with this concept. I showed up on time you need to reciprocate. Booth was the only one without a light. I hate using my flashlight to read menus. I have excellent eyesight. To be critical I expect a large secure in by drink not a smoothed out cube. Good news they have Boodles. A rarity. My fillet was excellent. Seafood was over cooked. Cheese bread needed more toasting. I thought the servers weee very nice. Thumbs up.

My overall experience at the Derby has made it my go-to spot for celebrating special milestones and events. It was such a delightful experience that I'm now looking for more reasons to visit the Derby more frequently. The food is excellent, and the ambiance is warm and relaxing, transporting you to a unique place and time. The teamwork among the servers is impressive, ensuring every detail is attended to, which makes every dollar spent feel worthwhile.
My husband and I ordered appetizers and sides instead of traditional entrees. We had ribs, lobster gratin, crispy Brussels sprouts and creamed spinach. All were absolutely delicious! Not to mention the cheesy garlic bread, hot out of the oven. I had not been to The Derby since I went, quite often, with my parents. I was delighted with the beauty of the restaurant and the great service. My husband was very impressed, too!
We had a great dinner here with friends. The prime rib was delicious and the brussel sprouts appetizer was tasty with balsamic, lemon, and cheese. The garlic cheese bread they bring out before dinner is to die for here. Great service and ambience in an equestrian themed restaurant. Valet parking in front.
Excellent lunch with friends Joe, our server, was great and his assistant, Josh, made the meal very enjoyable Joe visited our table a number of times to make certain all was ok. I will ask for his station next time we go to the Derby.
