My friend and I went for her birthday meal for our weekend out to Tasmania, and MAN am I happy we choose here to spend our only night in Hobart. It was such a beautiful experience, from entering into the beautiful old building, to experiencing the unique and tasty pre dinner cocktails and of course -- the gorgeous food! I tried not too take TOO many photos of the food so I didn't seem too touristy. Each serving was just as beautiful as the last, and with it being such a small intimate area, with about 7 tables of 2 each, it meant you could actually hold a conversation with the person at your table. However I found I got distracted too much by watching Kobi and Sarah create the beautiful meal...
After 2 years of not being a able to travel anywhere my wife and I were looking forward to our trip to Hobart, for the cricket and fine dining . We decided to try two restaurants Fico and Dier Makr and the contrast between...the two couldn’t be greater. Fico, fantastic food, wine and service… Dier Makr , nothing memorable. Its the first time I’ve been to a restaurant with a wine list so large and not known one wine on the list. We picked a bottle of fiano at $140 that was undrinkable. It was 2018 and tasted like it was 1998 with zero fruit left. An excellent little restaurant tucked away on Collins St. Very intimate with only six or seven tables. We had the tasting degustation menu and this was fantastic at only $65. Each dish was prepared to perfection and they were delicious. The squid dish was simply mouth watering and quite possibly the best tasting squid that I've ever had.My only let down was the wine list. At the beginning of the food, it was explained that they have a real focus on celebrating local produce, yet they have no local Tassie wines on their list. This was a surprise as Tassie has a wonderful selection of top wines to choose from.Excellent - yes, but could be next level with some local wines available. Réservez une table maintenant
This is an excellent restaurant, be sure to book or you will miss out. The food is amazing - simple, fresh and beautifully prepared. The chef(s) really get the best out of the local produce. The degustation menu provides a perfect mix of flavours, with an added bonus of fresh truffles shaved off right at the table.BUT... as good as the food is (and it is amazing), the staff are even better. These guys have the formula right - upmarket but not in any way pretentious. Needless to say the wine list is eclectic too - try the 'Pheasants Tears' from Georgia, you wont regret it.P.S> Good value too - especially if you compare to similar offerings in Sydney or Melbourne.
This is restaurant siturated in a beautiful older building location and offers very friendly staff and odegustation small plate beautifully prepared different food. It's certainly not suitable for those with good appetites or not wanting to spend up to two hours to be served feed me menu. Not sure how you would go if you wanted to order just seperate items as some dishes are very small. Wonderful wine selection if you know European wines ! Sometimes in these types of restaurants with no typical main course you tend to forget what you really had to eat but it certainly seems to suit food trendies .
We spent the evening of our 10th anniversary enjoying the tasting menu, & we weren't disappointed! Everything from the tiny first taste, (which was almost too cute to eat!) to the eclectic choice of music from the 70s delighted us! We found that eating this way is perfect for a romantic shared experience; the relaxed atmosphere & pace saw us feeling satisfied & quite full when we left. And inspired: who knew Jerusalem artichokes could be so divine! I have a couple of friends who would love this place, so I'll be back!
We've never experienced a degustation style meal for $65, so the value for money was exceptional. Each course was creative and delicately put together. The atmosphere is intimate and the service was great. For me the only weakness was the absence of local wine on the 'by the class list'. They did appear to have a well stocked cellar where people were buying bottles, so perhaps more local wines are available in the cellar. That aside, we really enjoyed the experience and we highly recommend Dier Makr. Réservez une table maintenant
Dier Makr is an exceptional restaurant.We started with Stray Cats- a decadent tasty pomegranate gin drink that is hard to describe Then the food was amazing.We tried almost everything on the Sunday menu...the Jerusalem artichokes were our favorite.Excellent wine list. Eat here as soon as possible.
