Don't miss out on the opportunity to dine at The Flying Squirrel! I went with my husband and two kids, who were mostly well-behaved (but did not eat). Started with the brie topped with strawberries and almonds- both sweet and savory at the same time. My meal was exceptional; I had the salmon which was topped with some sort of blueberry sauce. It was lovely. Tastes of vinegar cut the sweetness of the blueberry well, and the portion was generous. My husband enjoyed his meal equally as much. I'm really sad, I really wanted to like this place and I don't often leave reviews good or bad. The server was super nice and attentive. I also loved the decor and the patio it's beyond cute! The food was just bad... I had the sweet potato poached eggs with chipotle hollandaise which kind of just came out as a mess on a bed of spinach. The eggs were under cooked and the hollandaise was really curdled. The chipotle just ended up being a huge amount of chipotle mayo smothered on top so I wasn't so sure about the other issues until I was into my dish already. It wasn't horrible but I just left disappointed despite the great service. Hope the food quality improves it's such a lovely place!
It was a rainy day today and we decided to leave the resort and find something to eat. What an unusual collection of items on the menu. My wife had the feta, spinach and mushroom quiche. The crust was light and fluffy. It was really the star of the meal. My oldest son had the grilled cheese. It was grilled perfectly. My youngest had the chipotle chicken sandwich. He raved about it. I had the Ahi sandwich the wasabi mayo was amazing. We had the peanut butter cake and apple pie for dessert. It's right next to lock 8, so we got to watch a ship cruise by while we ate. Go and enjoy!
My wife, two kids, and I visited this restaurant for a great meal, and that's exactly what we got. The service was excellent, with a very kind lady who allowed our little dog to sit with us on the patio. The food was delicious, so much so that we took the leftovers home. I highly recommend trying the Mexican bowl, which includes rice, beans, sour cream, red and green salsa, and corn. The lady was accommodating when I asked to customize my bowl. I look forward to returning and trying something new.
This restaurant was quite disappointing. We visited for brunch and ordered eggs benedict with smoked salmon, side potatoes, coffee, and iced tea. The poached egg yolks and hollandaise sauce were both too runny, resulting in a bland taste and our food being swimming in liquid. The outdoor patio had a nice atmosphere and the prices were reasonable. The server was friendly but seemed overwhelmed. Unfortunately, the croissants seemed to be baked from frozen. Overall, it was a mediocre experience.
The Flying Squirrel is a fantastic bistro! My husband, Laur, and I often ride our bikes from St. Catharines to Port Colborne and back, and we discovered this place online. It exceeded all of our expectations with its interesting decor and delicious food options for both vegans and meat-eaters. Our server was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. They offer a variety of drinks, including alcohol, and a tempting selection of desserts. We will definitely be returning!
great place! the food was so many great choices. we had the lobster benny on a croissant and it was just so good. it was combined with a trius dry riesling that was just perfect. we had dessert the salted caramel cheesecake. it was worth the calorie. we will try the rest of it. oh by the way, we came from Niagara-On-The-Lake a minute. drive and it was worth it.
Cute and cozy with a delicious brunch. My husband got eggs Benedict with bacon and sriracha and I went for the sweet potato and black bean cakes with poached eggs. Someone in the kitchen has practiced their poaching, because the eggs on both of our dishes were perfect. Service was friendly and efficient.
