We were four adults and 1 child, going in at about 10:30 for a Sunday brunch. Although no reservation was made and many tables were occupied, some were still available at the back. The waitress attended on us soon after we were seated. She was efficient and reasonably friendly. Brunch consisted of 2 menus, one with eggs, bacon, ham, 2 sausages and potatoes, the other with the same in smaller quantity + 1 pancake. Food can also be order "à la carte". Coffee was served while we were waiting; it was terrible, the kind of canteen coffee kept hours in the coffepot on the heater. Food was warm and served quickly on large plates. Having eaten at Gus's on a few occasions now i can only complement them on the friendly, fast service and portion size and quality of the food. Most places you will have at least 1 not so great experience. I still havent had that at Gus's. Always good hot food presented by friendly staff . A great family restaurant .The sercice is the same whether in the family booths or in the dining room.You onow when you have that ,,, go to place,,,, well Gus's is mine.
I have enjoyed eating at Gus's for years. I took my three grandsons this evening and wasn't impressed. Our food wasn't ready at the same time..my one grandson's bacon burger was missing the bacon...the seafood platter was very over cooked...the kids chicken fingers meal..over priced...had only 2 small pieces of chicken and a huge pile of fries. This was a big disappointment and I will probably be taking the boys elsewhere next time.
Chanced on Gus's whilst window shopping , and we were glad we did . Friendly greeting from the two waitresses , quick presentation of menus and drinks , followed by a great Club sandwich , and a Burger with fries - enough for 4 people , but we dug in and chomped our way through an enjoyable lunch whilst watching Picton main street drift past the window .My only complaint might have been that the a/c was set a bit too low . If you are looking for typical diner grub, look no further. Food is bland and very greasy, coffee is weak, and service is rushed and border-line rude. My son asked to substitute extra home fries for eggs, and server was not helpful. She seemed offended that someone would ask. Just took off the eggs and charged regular price. Prices are not cheap for what you get. Will not be back.
Okay, don't let the older looks of the place put you off. We weren't sure about the place, it could use an upgrade, but clean and lots of the locals were eating there. So we took our appetites by the hand and headed in. We had a great b-fast - hubby did the manly bacon & eggs etc., while I went for the lighter fare. It was delish, service was good and friendly. We would go again.
I hadn't eaten at Gus's for years but found when I did a couple of weeks ago it was as good as I'd remembered.Same friendly service, good home cooked food at reasonable prices.I had the toasted western deluxe which came with yummy coleslaw & lots of fries, enough to share with my friend whose meal didn't come with them.I won't wait as long to return there.
My wife and I ate here on 8/11/17. Town was crowded with tourist so stopped a local who suggested we try Gus's. As other reviewers have stated, if locals eat here - well, it was good. We each had a sandwich and my wife told the waitress that the corn beef was excellent. French fries were "crisp" just the way we like them. We would return. Réservez une table maintenant
There is something about diners, we've all been to them all over North America and I just want them to be the same. That is what Gus's is, classic diner menu, fast and friendly service, very reasonable prices and good food. I will be going back repeatedly to work my way through favourite menu items, looking forward to it!
