My daughter's and I brought my husband here for Father's Day dinner. While the atmosphere is very nice I cannot same the same for the food or service. Very disappointing! First, I asked for my burger to be cooked well done. It was not. Totally raw so I had to send it back. Something I don't usually do but I could not eat it. My fries were cold. I did not bother to mention that to the waiter. Next, one of my daughters ordered the taco's and truffle fries. When the food came she reminded the waiter nicely about the truffle fries. I then had to remind him two more times. Everyone finished eating before the truffle fries finally arrived. An apology would have been nice or maybe even taking it of...
When I looked for fine dining in NJ and this restaurant came up I was excited because we have been to most of the others. Welll there is NO fine dining here other than the wait staff!!!! The hostess informed me upon arrival that my outside reservation menu was limited and different from the indoor menu, since it’s a special weekend I opted for indoor dining to which I was told I had to out by a certain time…never the less we stayed. Atmosphere: cute, tables: small and tight seating, food: paella NO!!! Over cooked, I got a mound of mussels, over cooked rice with soggy peas and red peppers, loaded with low grade butter, tasted like it was out of a box with zero seasonings, 4 shrimp and ONE und...
We have visited Halcyon many times before. The service is wonderful. We are regularly impressed by the waitstaff. Generally, the food is also outstanding. However, on our recent visit, we found some of our favorite dishes to be a bit off. Most disappointing was the ambiance. At a nearby table, a child (probably somewhere between 5-7) was watching an iPad while two adults and what appeared to be a somewhat grown child sat with them. The iPad was so loud, we could hear every detail above other tables, fairly loud music in the restaurant, and people at the bar. Issues pro/con iPads to entertain your children at the table aside, at what point should an expensive, fine dining establishment addres...
We had a wonderful time celebrating a friends special birthday here last week. The bar area is very elegant, and we each had a cocktail before dinner, (love the espresso Martinis) The food was wonderful, they always have a lovely, very fresh oysters, which was what we started with. The Paella was delicious, and is plenty for two people. Everyone loved their food, and the service was great. We sat in the booth style table, which accommodated 5 of us easily, and even though the restaurant was full, we could easily hear each other! This place has never disappointed, I highly recommend!
The PEI mussels Moules Frites phenomenal. The subtle anise flavor from the Pernod in the cream broth kept us coming back for more, and this broth is smooth and flavorfully complex. We have been looking for a seafood place that could compete with H2Ocean since they closed a few years back, and I will be coming back here for the mussels dish alone! We also had the cod and scallops which were well prepared and delicious. On the drinks side of the menu, the Village Green was a standout (tasted like lime juice lychee, almost Mountain Dew like flavor).
Party upstairs, trio playing downstairs...made it hard to hear and talk. Appetizers were excellent. Wine was good and moderately priced. Entrees were mediocre..4 scallops served on a melange of some type of vegetables was pretty tasteless. Tuna was beautifully cooked but had too much spice/pepper. I'll go again and sit at the the beautiful bar and have wine and appetizers.
