The wife and I were looking for dinner while holidaying in Hobart. We found the Hope and Anchor tavern and are glad we did. Good beers on tap and a nice dinner menu saw is visit a second time in our four days in town. A relaxed atmosphere and very welcoming staff make for a great night in Australia's oldest licensed venue. On a cold Hobart night their hot-buttered rum will warm the body core. Loved the beef Wellington.

Gorgeous old pub full of history. Came for the seafood chowder served in a cob loaf and wasn’t disappointed! It was soooo delicious; creamy with whole prawns, scallops and pieces of fish. Just so good! Husband had the special pie which was chicken and mushrooms which he rated as excellent as was his mash and vegies. Complemented with pints of Guiness for a really great lunch on a cold Winter’s day.

I was here a year ago (short of two weeks) with a work colleague. The place was terrible…… tonight, I was amazed at the difference. Not sure if it’s changed hands or something else has happened, but it’s hard to believe it’s the raw place. It’s now clean, smells great, staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Food was amazing honest pub food. Great place, will be back!

Very disappointed with seafood chowder. Looked good but mainly potato carrot. Equally letdown with the spiced cauliflower. Probably should have ordered the waiter’s Beef Wellington recommendation.
