We stayed in a villa in Joucas for a family holiday in august. The village is very quiet and charming but with two restaurants and a small shop.We enjoyed early evening drinks on the terrace of this very traditional French hotel (part of the Logis network) on several evenings. Drinks are incredibly good quality and well priced (€5.50 for a glass of excellent champagne). The whole place is quite run down so if you are looking for a flash evening out this isn't for you but if you want to experience traditional old fashioned French style and hospitality, this is what you will get with reasonable prices and an unpretentious atmosphere. As soon as we sat down we were brought two large bottle of water and some bread with olive tapenade, served by a charming girl. The restaurant cuisine is excellent. We (4 adults) all ate from the slightly more expensive set menu (€30 for starter, main from choice of three and dessert), children had children's menu (€10 for drink, main of either chicken goujons or cod and chips and ice cream). Everything was on a generous scale, but was all well balanced. For starters we ate a mix of delicious local melon with ham and a selection of foie gras, fig compote, gingerbread and another delicious nibble! Mains were monk fish in a delicious creamy and bacon (but not overpowering) sauce, entrecôte steak cooked to perfection and scallops - all served with delicious and well proportioned sides. For dessert we had a creme brûlée with a hint of lavender and a summer tiramisu (apricot and red fruits - very light take on a traditional tiramisu). We did have to wait quite a while between starter and main but the delicious food, charming service and ambiance more than made up for this. Obviously there is a very small kitchen and each dish is cooked to order. We drank excellent red (bottle) and rosé wine (carafe) from a vineyard at nearby Gordes, at a reasonable price. We also ate at the other village restaurant several times and cannot understand why that is always busy and this not so much. Can only think people are put off by the slightly scruffy appearance and more adventurous menu, however this had far superior cuisine and ambiance. Yet again the Logis brand did not disappoint.
