"Two choices of entree and one of them is always cassoulet. Rich and plentiful, the cassoulet is still just pork and beans. Service genial but slow. Dessert was almost unpalatable. Sad, dreary atmosphere."

Having just returned from Spain we had had withdrawal symptoms from good French cooking, during the season we have dined many times at the cassoulet gourmand on the port , this only opens in the season so we thought let's give their head office a go we had often passed the hotel de France but never ventured in , well not any more, what a delightful surprise , although we were very early a delightful young lady welcomed us explained the chef was not ready yet but if we would like to be seated she would find us some appetisers and something to drink, after which she came with menus but we wanted a chèvre salad and a Caesar salad and boy did we get one , the chef had excelled himself he had built two excellent dishes. A lovely carafe of house rose to wash it down . What a result! And no nasty surprise when the bill came . This is a traditional FRENCH restaurant with all the skill and service that implies a jewel! Would I go back? Try and stop meValue for money. You bet worth every cent

While looking for a nice cassoulet lunch during our visit to Castelnaudary the Hotel De France was recommended to us by a local resident. Although we arrived after the regular 12-2PM lunch hour we were cheerfully seated in the hotels accommodating restaurant. The first thing we noticed was that most of the people were locals. The lunch was good, very inexpensive and more than my wife and I could consume. While there are plenty of restaurants in the town that feature this wonderful local dish, I have to agree that it was one of the best cassoulets I've eaten. The service was excellent, friendly, & professional.

We stumbled across this hotel one evening when most other restaurants were closed. The menu was quite typical of this area. The restaurants appeared to have been re decorated and was nicely presented. The service was ok and the food was good. Having two children who can be fussy eaters the menu lacked choice although the steak was a result.
