This place is truly a hidden gem. I know Hartford and its restaurants quite well, and I discovered this one located across from Hartford Hospital. As soon as I walked in, I fell in love with the atmosphere. I visited at night and requested a table outside. They had plenty of heaters to keep everyone warm, along with a fire pit. We really enjoy restaurants that offer outdoor seating reservations, so we decided to give J Restaurant a try, and we’re so glad we did! The patio has a charming yet spacious atmosphere. They've enclosed the area with sea-to-land containers, and it’s filled with cozy fire pits, patio heaters, and heated gazebos. To top it all off, the food was absolutely delicious! During our time at the hospital for the birth of our baby, my spouse and I chose to eat out to steer clear of the hospital food. We came across this restaurant just down the street and ended up ordering takeout for two consecutive nights. The food was incredible, and we enjoyed every bite. The penne with vodka sauce and shrimp was particularly outstanding, and my wife couldn't get enough of the crab cakes. We also loved the special pizza and fried mozzarella. The service was excellent, and the staff was very friendly. We were delighted to discover such a hidden gem of a restaurant.
For my meal, I ordered the J signature salad, which is one of my favorites—absolutely delicious! I also had the Mediterranean haddock, which was fantastic. My dining companion chose the Caesar salad and the Chicken Francais, both of which were also delightful; I was lucky enough to sample a bit of each.
The restaurant has its own private parking lot, making it incredibly convenient. Overall, J Restaurant is truly a gem! (See what I did there?!) I do hope they consider bringing back their pre-COVID happy hour!

I just had the perfect Christmas Eve dinner in the P.A.R.I.S ROOM, which is a heated outdoor shipping container for the winter. I loved the entire ambiance—it was such a great vibe! The food was amazing, featuring roasted salmon, eggplant parmesan, a J Burger, and crab cakes. Our server, Morgan Rubin, was incredibly pleasant and accommodating. I highly recommend visiting J Restaurant! Plus, the painted backdrop on the wall kept us entertained while we waited for our meals.
I discovered this restaurant just before attending a show at The Webster Theater, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. The Greek grilled chicken wrap was incredibly tasty, and I paired it with a salad on the side. We enjoyed sitting outside, which made for a lovely beginning to our evening! I highly recommend this place!
We've visited this restaurant several times and have always been pleased with our meals. On this visit, we were looking for a straightforward, no-frills meal at a reasonable price. One dish was J.'s Special Salad topped with rare tuna steak, while the other was a rare tuna steak wrap. Both were absolutely delicious.
We visited J Restaurant for the first time, and it definitely won’t be our last! It’s been a while since I’ve encountered such attentive service. The food is reasonably priced with hearty portions, and the atmosphere is unbeatable!
