So this is the home of the award winning vanilla slice. On a road trip to the Sorrento area, I just had to try it to see what all the fuss was about. Now the vanilla slice in my view was quite pricey $7.50 each) but they were also quite large. I took these home and enjoyed a slice as a late afternoon snack. Oh. My. Goodness. It was AH-MAZING. Crispy pastry, thick custard that wasn't overly sweet and the slightest scraping of jam on the bottom layer that completely changed the whole dessert. This has been a Sorrento staple for over 25 years, having changed ownership early on but continuing in the tradition. Fine food is meant as really good not necessarily gourmet. This is a cafe, not a restaurant. The vanilla slice keeps the crowds returning over and over, but we love their freshly made sandwiches and also the lasagne. The service is a lot nicer than it used to be they went through a snooty period about ten years ago. They also have really interesting chocolates especially good if you 're interested in getting some to take home for an after dinner treat!

Really rude staff, had a girl throw all the cutlery on the table... And refused to be of any assistance. It really isn't hard to ask if you'd like anything let alone smile. We understood it may not be possible to add chicken to the salad but we asked just incase the response was quiet crude. Bottled table water would be nice as well. All in all should of got fish and chips... Much friendlier. I always put on a smile and thank the staff and have done so today, though I just won't be coming back.
Busy busy busy and they turn over tonnes of their vanilla slices, they are nice. Ample seating outside they gladly accommodated our large group (of 10) during the busy Christmas/NY period. We never felt rushed and they took the time and patience to take down all our orders
The vanilla slice was good, but service was pretty bad and the food is way overpriced. I asked a number of times about whether one of their items had milk in it and got different answers from multiple staff members. Drinks were mediocre.
