A place of contrasts! It was a busy Friday evening and it seemed that they were very short staffed both for serving and for preparing the food. We were greeted well and placed our order quite soon after opting for a plate of salad which we could share between the 4 of us during our main course which was to be either pizza or a pasta meal. We saw that other diners were being served with enormous plates of food which clearly were double what normal people could eat. We started to wonder when the salad arrived on an enormous platter and was placed in the middle of the table as we had wished. Time went by and we were all hungry so after 10 or 15 minutes we started to help ourselves to fork fulls of the salad whilst we were waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for the main courses. A waitress came over after about an hour and told us that she had reminded the chef and our meals would be served soon... Several minutes later one huge pizza and one gigantic casserole dish sized carbonara arrived. The main courses ordered by our 2 friends did not appear for about a further 10 minutes! To describe the platefulls as over facing is an understatement and when we were all completely full we had around 65% of the food left uneaten so we asked as did other diners for our food to be saved rather than wasted. 2 pizza boxes and 2 food containers were delivered to the table for a diy packaging of the leftovers. We assumed (wrongly) that our bill would come soon afterwards WRONG! what happened instead was that after around 15 minutes I caught the attention of our waitress and asked politely for l 'addition she was then seen to be serving and taking orders for food from several more tables so I asked another waitress politely for l 'addition again nothing was forthrcoming at all. Finally around 20 minutes after my first request I asked waitress number 1 for l 'adition again and she saw my credit card ready on the table and simply barked that for card payments I should have gone inside to the counter and paid. OK so it would have been helpful to be told this 20 minutes earlier instead of being kept waiting.... However it was the manner used by this incredibly rude waitress that really upset me when as an afterthought she sarcastically said in a very rude way s 'il vous plait . This was a most unfortunate experience for ourselves and our friends and was entirely unnecessary. Staff seemed to be rushing backwards and forwards but headless chickens comes to mind as a suitable phrase to describe the service they provided. Very busy but lacking both clear purpose and certainly lacking any idea of what service should be like!
What a shame! Visited here in Aug 2012 and really enjoyed the food. We returned to get another big carb loaded meal after a day sailing to be served by two very overstretched and tired waitresses. We sat down outside and waited 20 minutes for a menu! After which we waited another 20 minutes to have our drink order taken. Once the drinks finally arrived we quickly gave the waitress our food order to cut time. However, another hour passed by and we were still waiting!! As we knew the portions were big we only ordered a main course each two plates of pasta. Nothing complicated. Looking around all the other tables seemed to be food less! Everyone had run out of conversation and seemed to be hungrily glaring at each other hoping someone would magically appear with their order. It seemed that not only were the two waitresses trying to keep up but the kitchen just didn't have the staff to cook all the orders. We were finally greeted by the rushed waitress with two massive plates of pasta. I had the Spaghetti Vigorelli and my boyfriend had the Penne Du Chef. Both dishes could've been shared by 3 or 4 people each. No necessarily a bad thing but in this case it just made us feel overwhelmed and a bit ill. My dish was a cream, ham and mushroom sauce It was basically a cream soup! My boyfriend had a tomato based sauce that was swimming in oil. Tipping the bowl to one side, you could spoon the oil that had separated from the sauce. We paid 49 EUROS for two bowls of (disgusting) pasta, a small glass of wine, 3 small beers and water. All in all, we were at this restaurant for over 2 hours What a waste of an evening and money!
Several meals here lately have proved that the annoyance and disappointment of what I wanted to believe were 'glitches ' are in fact now part of the level of service. The last visit had main meals arriving 15 minutes or more apart at our table, incorrect extras (pasta instead of chips with replacements arriving long after the base food was cold) dirty tableclothes laughingly excused as worn but clean really and premium priced but certainly not premium quality whisky. Such a shame to see how wrong this place has gone.
One visits the place, expecting some Italian style by virtue of its name.... The pasta hardly reminds you of real Italian culinary skills, moreover the wine could rather pass as vinegar. Personnel took no interest in some friendly feedback and laughed the matter off with Napoli is just not an Italian restaurant (how silly to even think such! In short; too much pretense, overpriced, unprofessional. Not worth a second visit.
