We had had a great day hiking in Parc National des Grands Jardins and returned to Baie-St-Paul quite late. Having previously wandered round the town and been unimpressed by the restaurants - a choice between overly expensive or standard mass market (being a Monday, La Diapason our other choice was closed) - we opted for Les Labours and were delighted. Whilst the service was on the slow side (a common trait it seems in Canada and in fairness we were lucky to get a table at such short notice late on), everything else was excellent - a great selection on the menu, food which was well presented and used local produce imaginatively (the halibut was superb as was the foie gras) and really good deserts accompanied by a free hot drink (why don't more restaurants provide this nice touch?). The staff provided helpful advice about the choices. We were fortunate to witness a superb sunset through the vast windows and were surprised at the overall cost, which was really good value for money. This was a far better dining experience than we had expected and whilst it is not fine dining, it is moving in that direction without the accompanying prices. Well worth visiting if you want a great meal, but I suspect that as it is quite a large and popular restaurant, you should be prepared for slow service but why hurry?

Usually hotels don't have a gourmet restaurant, but this is one of the exceptions. The decor is modern and the restaurant has an open kitchen right in the middle of the dining area. It is located on the second floor, and has lots of windows with great views. The menu is not too extensive, but everything is prepared with a gourmet touch. They also have a nice wine selection available with a knowledgeable sommelier. We tried the halibut and the cream of parsnip, and they both were outstanding.

Dined as a couple, price was on par for what you would pay for the quality and variety of food you would obtain in a more urban centre. Entree was on point the goat was a little too salty but edible. Otherwise our mains and dessert was excellent. Would recommend if in the area. Service was excellent.

We came to eat as a family of four and we really enjoyed the atmosphere and food. I had the squid ink risotto and short ribs. Both were delicious. Service was very friendly and we really enjoyed the meal. Would definitely eat here again.
