"Food 10/10 not much to say, if you like seafood this is one of the place you should eat. Bring a little more pocket money and you will find everything you ever dreamed of! We had the seafood collection for entry, the seabass as a main and all desserts to try...everything 10/10 no complain.Service average, which is already as good as I expect it for frenchies ;-)"

Having often eaten at l'Estagnol in Narbonne we thought we would stop for lunch at l'Estagnol in Gruissan. Big mistake. The coolness of the welcome should have alerted us and it went downhill from there. We ordered the menu du marche expecting whatever was fresh from the market. The choice was the thinnest sausage I have ever seen and a small portion of dauphinoise potatoes or encornets farcies ( stuffed squid) neither of which came fresh from any market. We ordered a pichet of very ordinary rose which cost 9 euros. We had no bread no napkins and not a smile in sight. We both agreed that the desert would need to be magnificent to make the offering worth the 14 euros menu price. We were offered chocolate mousse and when my wife asked about choice the choice was take it or leave it despite us overhearing French couples being offered other deserts. The actual food to be fair was tasty but the whole experience fell so far short of any reasonable expectation that we felt completely ripped off. Reluctantly our advice is avoid this restaurant at all costs.

There's a pretty courtyard with some tables in the shade; best to book if you want one during July and August. We had a lukewarm welcome from the waiter who took our drinks order and then forgot it. Madame was much more efficient. The half a dozen small sardine fillets on a tartare of a few chopped tomatoes seemed expensive at 10€. There was a good choice of fish and a 14€ menu with fish or meat of the day and a dessert, probably only served at lunchtime. The house wines are from Chateau Pech Celeyran and were well chilled and good. The ice creams looked interesting with a fair assortment of flavours including peche de vigne and muscat. The atmosphere was good, with quiet a hum of people talking and no music, but the staff could do with working on their charm.

We went here for lunch, unfortunately it was a Saturday so there was no 'lunch of the day' option, however we opted for Dorade and Toulouse sausage. Both meals came with a portion of warm ratatouille with pasta shells which were delicious. The fish came with a berre blanc sauce which complimented it well and the sausage came with mayo. The fish dish was lovely, however, my partner had the sausage and he was disappointed by the size of the dish compared to the price. We have had better value for money at other places, with the same level of quality.

From the outset this establishment did little to encourage a return ( or even a good review ) The service was off hand, very unwelcoming. They made quite a fuss over changing my napkin which was damp....the set menu choices were ok but the food itself was quite poor, particularly the main....lamb with mash ( Avec lumps ) and no veg, a piece of white fish with ratatouille which was so strong in flavour as to over power the fish. As meals go this was not a good one and I wouldn't bother again
