--- I recently took a vacation at Sunset Beach, and by our third night, we were craving pizza. That's when I discovered Maria's, which was about a 17-minute drive from our condo. I placed an order online and arrived just in time for pickup. The pizza was ready when I got there, and there was no wait at all. Once I brought it back and took my first bite, I felt like I had been transported to another world where the pizza gods reside! We ordered the Meatball appetizer, which was substantial enough to be a meal on its own and quite delicious. My wife chose the meatlover's pizza, which provided us with plenty of leftovers. Overall, it was good, although she isn't a fan of the sliced sausage that seems to be common these days. I had a calzone filled with prosciutto (sliced fresh in the restaurant, as they mentioned) that featured an excellent ricotta filling. The dough was thin and slightly overcooked, but the filling made up for it. Our waiter, Michael, was upbeat, enthusiastic, and well-informed about the menu.
The beer and liquor selection is excellent if you're in the mood for a drink. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the establishment is well-maintained. However, the salad was uninspiring, which is typical, but it was so wilted that it should have been discarded. If they serve lettuce in that condition, it raises concerns about their quality control in other areas as well. I ordered the classic 16 cheese pizza and requested it to be well-baked. Unfortunately, it came out just average in terms of baking. On a positive note, the dough was quite unique and had a bold flavor.
After going in I had a feeling we should go somewhere else. There was a line of people waiting for there takeout/ online orders. Some had been there over 45 minutes. There were at least 10 orders sitting there but none for the (at least 10) people waiting. Finally get a table and took over 50 minutes to get meal. It was a simple Penne Contadina. The sausage were huge chunks. Meal comes with bread which we did not get. When I asked for bread I was told they did not have any. I Réservez une table maintenant
Pizza was really good, but service was pretty slow (we ordered online and pickup time was 8pm, but food wasn't actually ready until closer to 845). When we finally got our food we walked out only to get to the car and realize they'd forgotten our appetizers (two orders of mozzarella sticks). Impressive strip mall pizzeria and restaurant with a great friendly staff, nice wine list, a selection of brews (not much local however), and a great menu of pizza, calzone/Stromboli, salads, pastas, and entrees including a couple of options for those avoiding carbs or gluten. My first time eating here i went for dinner. I was pleasantly surprised to find it's not just a pizza place, but has a very nice italian menu, including pasta dishes and a bar. I had the homemade meatballs with ricotta appetizer and it was delicious. I also got the lasagna with fresh made noodles and would totally recommend ???? I will be going back and i think this is a must visit if you are going out for dinner in the Ocean Isle area.
This restaurant has quickly become one of my go-to spots. The pizza is incredible—the crust is just right, and they offer a great selection of toppings. The salads are always fresh, and I’ve never heard anyone complain about the pasta dishes when dining with them. I’ve tried both dining in and taking out, and the quality is always superb. The ricotta pizza and meatball appetizer were absolutely delicious. The pizza crust was especially good, especially when dipped in the marinara that accompanied the meatballs. I can't comment on the atmosphere since I ordered takeout, but the interior of the restaurant looks very charming and clean.
