Every week, my friend and I like to visit a cafe in Sydney and try their breakfast. Usually following Broadsheet's 'best breakfast in Sydney' list, this week we decided to venture outside of the usual Surry Hills/Redfern area, and visit Meet Gerard, a cafe I always drive past, and have wanted to visit for a long time. I'm glad we did. The menu was simple, and full of variety. The smashed avocado, with a side of eggs and haloumi, was exactly what I have been looking for. The staff were friendly, and the service quick, with the food coming out within 15 minutes and drinks almost instantly. The best part about this cafe perhaps is the amount of outdoor seating available. We visited at the start...
I love supporting local cafes in my area and Meet Gerard has been a great addition to the Alexandria community. The food is great and it is always busy, which says a lot about the place. However, I was extremely disapointing when i ordered a smashed avocado toast with crumbled fetta and there was only ONE slice of bread on the plate for $17!If you want to charge high prices, you have to be offering what the high prices are for and let me tell you nowhere else in the City charges you that for a slice of smashed avocado. Most places charge between $14 to $17 but you get 2 slices!Disapppointing and hungry!
A shame this place is around the corner. Lazy, apathetic service, flaccid, dull and boring food with the atmosphere of a dead fish. Who employs these lazy millennial staff? Serve me, not check your phones and think about your next pair of mum-jeans.Thrown-together unoriginal food with the emotional level of ten year old.Go to Bitton (a few blocks away) for real service and real food.Pathetic, dumb, noisy, overpriced and distracted. And I'm being kind.
Picking places from Insta photos is so hit and miss, but this one was definitely a winner. Was keen for a lighter breakfast on this occasion so had the Milk and Honey which was granola with a very subtle not too sweet pannacotta - so tasty (see pic). We arrived around 8:30 and only needed to wait a couple of minutes for a table on a Saturday morning, but by the time we left there was a decent line - restaurant space is quite small. Typical local cafe. Ordered the coffee, French toast and their signature "milk and honey". The coffee were warm-ish. Other dishes were nice.The attitude of the waitress were average (i.e. A typical local cafe, lack of greeting, lack of smile). This is absolutely ok for a local cafe. However, this place recommended by Timeout. I am sure they could have done better.
A local favourite, usually a short wait / queue for table or takeaway on saturday morning. Not the cheapest around but I've never had a bad meal there or poor service in the countless times I've been. Delicious food, the 'milk and honey' is a favourite. Coffee always good. Staff are friendly and cafe is dog friendly. Always our go to. Closed on Sundays.
