I found this amazing county pub whilst staying in the area for a short while. This is a very clean, efficiently run gastro pub with very welcoming and friendly staff. It has a wonderful eclectic gallery of pictures past and present, including the statue of the innovative Rowland Hill who brought the postage stamp into the postal service, which today still thrives 184 years years later. On a spur of the moment decision to go for lunch. We decided to stay local for a change. I am so glad that we did! Under new management, and what an improvement. Great staff, great food, very welcoming, and very reasonably priced. Few people in number, but once word gets about this place will be thriving. Arrived for prebooked mothers day menu 3 courses £21.50 . Arrived asked for the menu told no we are not doing that false advertising was not happy huge queue at bar .when asked to speak to manager was told they were in kitchen and couldn 't come out offered to discount food however no roast available bad organisation. Walked out will not be visiting again !!
Used the Mitre Oak a few times and found the service to be a little bit hit and miss, sometimes waiting a little longer than we want for the food, but this could just be down to how busy it is. Food is reasonable priced and always found it to be tasty. Can be a little noisy at times

Went with my husband and daughter. Staff were lovely very helpful, food was great and there was a DJ playing music in the background which made a nice change. Food arrived in good time and we weren’t sat waiting. Will be going back would definitely recommend
The food is ok, it’s cheap and cheerful. The restaurant is filthy though! We sat in a window seat and the bench was covered in stains it made me feel sick. The carpet was filthy and threadbare- covered in dirt and dust. I wouldn’t return.
This place had a poor reputation in the past but under new management it has become a very popular spot for very good food, well presented by friendly and helpful staff, it can only continue to succeed if it has our patronage.
Booked in for Sunday lunch couldn't have been happier with our visit Sunday Dinners were spot on and very quick out the kitchen not long followed by everyone elses highly recommended for families

We had a very enjoyable evening dining with family and friends, celebrating two birthdays. The food and drinks were good and we received excellent service from Teagun.
Code our server was very friendly and attentive. Chef Oli cooked us a fab meal. Very clean and nice friendly atmosphere. Would go back
