On February 16th, I visited Nonna’s Kitchen with my wife for the first time. It will not be our last time. This place is terrific. I was raised in an Italian family household. My family harkens from Siracusa Sicily. There are an awful lot of restaurants that serve pasta with some sort of a red sauce, but aside from Saladino’s (now closed), Nonna’s is the first restaurant that I found in Coos County that is authentic and true to the Italian heritage. I ordered Escarole soup, and that soup at Nonna’s brought me back to my childhood. It had a great homemade chicken broth that was chock full of greens and tiny meatballs. Exquisite! I had the Mussels in a spicy red sauce, on linguine. There was a proverbial boatload of succulent mussels in a homemade chunky red sauce that was slightly spicy. The linguine was made fresh. The meal was outstanding! The portions were more than ample. The dining room actually felt like I was sitting in an Italian Nonna’s kitchen. The price was very reasonable for the freshly prepared top-notch food. And the waitress was terrific.
