We were now two evenings at this very unpretentious but charming restaurant and we were blown away by the quality, taste combinations and skill of preparation. There are simply two menus, we took one of each. The chef cooks his own foie gras. If you...like it I can tell you this was by far the best I ever tasted, served with spiced bread and a delicious chutney. Every mouthful was a delight and we eagerly shared each other’s plates. I had the fois gras both nights. Tonight we shared a crazy cold véloute of tomatoes and yellow peppers, moving between that and the foie gras. Last night it was the chicken and the duck, the latter with a blackberry sauce. Tonight the two fish plates, and my turbot this evening was with a mousse of broccoli, topped with mange tout peas and a marvellous lemony mousse sauce. I would defy any food critic to be less than delighted. We both had the chocolate fondant, again perfect as could be, this evening. When we sat down we were offered an amuse bouche of a delightfully creamy courgette cold soup In a glass, at the end two sweet little cakes each, and the chef came out to offer a cold shot of alcohol. We have been to many ‘fine dining’ disappointments and eaten all over Europe and in many other countries. We love French food, Italian food in particular, but we have eaten better, more balanced, subtle, perfectly seasoned dishes in this place than perhaps ever before. It reminds us of the film Ratatouille. Really some of the best restaurant food we have ever enjoyed. I love cooking, but this chef utterly knocked us out and I hope to have learned something from these meals. No praise is too high. The service was rather slow as there is one waiter and one chef in the kitchen in the evenings, and the place is deservedly popular. But worth waiting for, and if you drink we don’t) they seem to have an excellent wine list so you can have a really nice long evening there. At lunch there is a third person working so probably things go faster then
